MANILA, Philippines -- Three “experienced†police security have been deployed to actress Ruffa Gutierrez and her two daughters, Lorin and Venice, because of what she described as "grave threats" from estranged husband Yilmaz Bektas, a police official said Thursday.
Chief Superintendent Romeo Hilomen, Police Security Protection Police director, said the actress’ mother, Annabel Rama, received the police escorts around 11 a.m., following a request to police Director General Oscar Calderon.
Gutierrez left Bektas in Istanbul last February but admitted their break up only recently.
After a series of public accusations between her and Bektas, Gutierrez claimed on national television that she was a battered wife and even experienced being electrocuted.
Bektas admitted hitting Gutierrez once, when he found out she had been previously married. Gutierrez however said Bektas knew of her first marriage prior to their lavish 2003 Manila wedding.
"We will be providing her three police security for her own protection as she cited getting grave threats from her husband Yilmaz Bektas, who carries a diplomatic passport," said Hilomen.
He said a threat assessment had been conduced prior to the deployment of the actress' security detail and that that Gutierrez's guards are 'experienced,' with more than 10 years’ service.
"If Bektas is indeed rich, he could hire anybody in the Philippines to do harm against Ruffa," said Hilomen.
Hilomen said Gutierrez can decide whether or not to retain the bodyguards round-the-clock.
However, he said if she sent the bodyguards home and anything happened to her or her children, the Philippine National Police (PNP) could not be held accountable.
"Once she sends home her police security, our responsibility ceases to exist," he said.
Hilomen said the threat assessment would continue and only when the threat subsides would the security detail would be pulled-out.
He added that the PNP will shoulder the salary of the police guards.
