MONKAYO, Compostela Valley - Hollywood actor Josh Hartnett is slated to shoot scenes for his upcoming film in the gold-rush village of Mt. Diwalwal here, a village official said on Monday. Diwalwal barangay captain Francisco "Franco" Tito said people from the film's production company have visited the mountain village last week of June 2007.
Tito, the acknowledged head of some 40,000 residents in the area about 29 kilometers from Monkayo town proper, said the film called "I Come With the Rain" will star Josh Hartnett, who portrayed lead roles in such blockbusters as "Pearl Harbor," "Black Hawk Down" and "Hollywood Homicide."
Reports reaching MindaNews said staff from the film's producers did arrive on Tuesday and were accommodated by local officials, among them Comval first district Rep. Manuel "Way Kurat" Zamora Jr.
"Apil daw sa Cannes (film festival). Ipasalida daw sa internasyunal nga mga sinehan. (The film will be shown in Cannes. It will be for a worldwide release)", Tito told MindaNews by mobile phone on Monday.
The village chief said "this shows Diwalwal is peaceful already" that even international filmmakers showed interest in doing a movie in the area.
Due for release next year, "I Come With the Rain" is about a former Los Angeles cop-turned detective (Hartnett) who travels to the Far East in search of a Chinese billionaire's son but was distracted by the memories of a serial killer whose "body of work" made him quit the police force, the Internet Movie Database said.
The Internet movie site Asianpopcorn said alongside Hartnett, the movie by French-Vietnamese director Tran Anh Hung will also star Korean heartthrob Lee Byung-hun.
Filming will start July 9, with a 10-week location shoot in Los Angeles, Hong Kong and the Philippines, Asianpopcorn reported. (Frinston Lim / MindaNews)
