The Chen family-style (é™³å®¶ã€é™³æ° or é™³å¼ å¤ªæ¥µæ‹³) is the oldest and parent form of the five traditional family styles. Chen-style is characterized by Silk reeling (chÃ¡n sÄ« jÃ¬n; çºçµ²å‹), alternating fast/slow motion and bursts of power (fa jin; ç™¼å‹).[1]
Contemporary t'ai chi ch'uan is typically practised for a number of widely varying reasons: health, external/internal martial art skills, aesthetics, meditation or as an athletic/competition sport (sometimes called "wushu tai chi"). Therefore a teacher's system, practice and choice of training routines usually emphasizes one of these characteristics during training. The five traditional schools, precisely because they are traditional, attempt to retain the martial applicability of their teaching methods. Some argue that the Chen tradition emphasizes this martial efficacy to a greater extent.[1]

Origin Theories
The origin and nature of what is now known as tai chi is not historically verifiable until around the 17th century. Documents of this period indicate the Chen clan settled in Chenjiagou (Chen Village, é™³å®¶æº), Henan province, in the 13th century and reveal the defining contribution of Chen Wangting (é™ˆçŽ‹åº; 1580â€“1660).[2] It is therefore not clear how the Chen family actually came to practise their unique martial style and contradictory "histories" abound. What is known is that the other four contemporary traditional tai chi styles (Yang, Sun, Wu and Woo) trace their teachings back to Chen village in the early 1800s.[3][4]
Chen Village (Chenjiagou)[edit]
According to Chen Village family history, Chen Bu (é™³ä»†; é™ˆåœ) was a skilled martial artist who started the martial arts tradition within Chen Village.[5] The Chen family were originally from Shanxi, Hong Dong (å±±è¥¿æ´ªæ´ž). Chen Bu, considered to be the founder of the village, moved from Shanxi to Wen County, Henan Province (æ²³å—æº«åŽ¿) in 1374. The new area was originally known as Chang Yang Cun (å¸¸é™½æ‘) or Sunshine village and grew to include a large number of Chen descendants. Because of the three deep ravines (Gou) beside the village it came to be known as Chen Jia Gou (é™³å®¶æº) or Chen Family creek/brook. For generations onwards, the Chen Village was known for their martial arts.
The special nature of Tai Chi Chuan practice was attributed to the ninth generation Chen Village leader, Chen Wangting (é™³çŽ‹å»·; é™ˆçŽ‹åº; 1580â€“1660). He codified pre-existing Chen training practice into a corpus of seven routines. This included five routines of tai chi chuan (å¤ªæ¥µæ‹³äº”è·¯), 108 form Long Fist (ä¸€ç™¾é›¶å…«å‹¢é•·æ‹³ï¼‰and a more rigorous routine known as Cannon Fist (ç‚®æ¶ä¸€è·¯). Chen Wangting integrated different elements of Chinese philosophy into the martial arts training to create a new approach that we now recognize as the Internal martial arts. He added the principles of Yin-Yang theory (the universal principle of complementary opposites), the techniques of Doayin (leading and guiding energy) and Tu-na (expelling and drawing energy), theories encountered in Traditional Chinese Medicine and described in such texts as the Huang Di Nei Jing(ã€Šé»ƒå¸å…§ç¶“ã€‹; Yellow Emperor's Canon of Chinese Medicine). In addition, Wangting incorporated the boxing theories from sixteen different martial art styles as described in the classic text, Ji Xiao Xin Shu(ç¹¼æ•ˆæ–°æ›¸; "New Book Recording Effective Techniques"; ~ 1559-1561) written by the Ming General Qi Jiguang (æˆšç¹¼å…‰; 1528â€“1588).[5]
Chen Changxing (é™³é•·èˆˆ ChÃ©n ChÃ¡ngxÄ«ng, Ch'en Chang-hsing, 1771â€“1853), 14th generation Chen Village martial artist, synthesized Chen Wangting's open fist training corpus into two routines that came to be known as "Old Frame" (è€æž¶; lao jia). Those two routines are named individually as the First Form (Yilu; ä¸€è·¯) and the Second Form (Erlu; äºŒè·¯, more commonly known as the Cannon Fist ç‚®æ¶). Chen Changxing, contrary to Chen family tradition, also took the first recorded non-family member as a disciple, Yang Luchan (1799â€“1871), who went on to popularize the art throughout China, but as his own family tradition known as Yang-style t'ai chi ch'uan. The Chen family system was only taught within the Chen village region until 1928.
Chen Youben (é™³æœ‰æœ¬; 1780~1858), also of the 14th Chen generation, is credited with starting another Chen training tradition. This system also based on two routines is known as "Small Frame" (xiao jia; å°æž¶).[5] Small Frame system of training eventually lead to the formation of two other styles of Tai chi chuan that show strong Chen family influences, Zhaobao jia (è¶™å ¡æž¶) and Hulei jia (Thunder style; å¿½é›·æž¶). However they are not considered a part of the Chen family lineage.

BIOGRAPHY OF MASTER YUAN ZHANG

Martial Arts Master Yuan Zhang began to practice Wushu at the age of 8. He was chosen to join the Wushu Team of Xian City at the age of 10 and joined Wushu Team of Sanxi Province at the age of 14. Master Yuan Zhang studied Wushu with the same master as Changjun Zao who had won 10 Chinese Wushu championships in ten consecutive years. Master Yuan Zhang had won Gold Medal in Xing Yi Quan and Ba Ji Quan in Chinese National Wushu Championship in 1987. He had won 6 Gold Medals and 1 Silver Awards at the International Martial Arts Tournament in Florida in 2001. He is the same generation as Jet Li. Master Zhang has won two gold medals of traditional Wushu, and fourth place in national championships of San Da (one of Wushu styles). In 1984, Master Zhang retired from professional Wushu career and became an actor, Wushu instructor, and Wushu choreographer for movies in Xian Movie Company.

Master Zhang has learned different Wushu styles from different famous masters in China. His masters include Tong Zhang, famous master in 1950â€™s. Later Master Zhang studies Taijiquan from
Master Linqing Chen, whoâ€™s the master of Chen style Taijinquan. He has learned Changquan, Xingyi, Liuhe, Baji, Buoji, Shamuoguan, Taiji, etc. from his Sifus.

After retiring from the professional team, Master Zhang was an instructor for special army units in The Peopleâ€™s Liberation Army of China and the Xian police force.

Master Zhang became Wushu coach for professional teams. I.E. Wushu teams from Japan, and Switzerland.

Master Zhang is highly respected for his skill, his honesty, and his personality. His talents and qualities are can only be compared to the worldâ€™s greatest martial artists, both past and present.

Master Zhang acted in about ten films and TV shows. He also designed the fighting actions for the films and TV shows. Some of the films, and TV shows Master Zhang played in and designed Wushu fightings are:

Â· â€œShenbianâ€: portrayed Zuo Chuan Xou Lung, and choreographed Wushu fighting.
Â· â€œShanjinâ€: portrayed Shanze, and choreographed Wushu fighting.
Â· â€œDonglin Da Daoâ€: portrayed Xiao Man zi.
Â· â€œLuan Shi Zan Qiâ€: portrayed Zhao Qiâ€, and choreographed Wushu fighting.
Â· â€œYing Shen Buo Shiâ€: portrayed Mi zhi Yan, and choreographed Wushu fighting.
Â· â€œQi Xia Chu Shanâ€: Choreographed Wushu fighting.

Master Zhang has two Wushu schools in the United States. Both are located in New York City: one is Fort Hammilton 9th ave,Brooklyn, and one is in Flushing, Queens. Master Zhang also teaches in the universities in Manhattan, and New Jersey.

He teaches the following styles:

Ba Ji Quan, San Da/SanShu, Ying Yi Quan (Form & Will Boxing), Tong Bei Quan (5 Elements), Tai Chi Quan, Ba Gua Zhang, Zui Quan (Drunken Boxing), Qin Na (Bare Hand Capture Methods), Mei Hua Zhang, Shao Lin Quan, Hua Quan (Flower Fist), Cha Quan (Cha Style Fist), Pao Quan (Cannon Fist), Di Tan Quan (Ground Tumbling Boxing), Hou Quan (Monkey Style), Pi Gua Quan (Chop Hanging Fist), Tang Lan Quan (Mantis Boxing), Ying Zhao Quan (Eagle Style). most of the location shootings of AMIGO were done in maribojoc, bohol.

location shootings for SUMMER OF 2014 will be done in new york, florida, china, cebu, maribojoc and an island in bohol where everything will END

The international movie â€˜Amigoâ€™, formerly â€˜Baryoâ€™ and filmed entirely in Bohol, will premiere in Tagbilaran City on February 9 at the ICM Screenville 1.
The John Saylesâ€™ saga of a slice of Philippine-American War in 1900 has been getting rave reviews in film festivals abroad, such as in Toronto, San Sebastian (Spain), London, Los Angeles and Argentina.
Amigo, cited as a movie that traces the roots of American war policies, offers not only a visual treat but an educational experience as well on a forgotten era of Philippine history.
This international film introduces some 80 Boholano talents who play supporting roles (6 of whom with name characters) as villagers or guerrillas, and provide able support to an international cast that includes some award-winning Hollywood actors and veteran Filipino thespians.
Amigo shows many natural and heritage sites in Bohol, particularly the rice fields, forests and river views of interior villages of Toril, Maribojoc, the Clarin ancestral house in Loay, the Basdacu cave in loon, a scenic filed in Corella, a part of the San Agustin Church in Panglao and a hanging bridge in Antequera.
Film director John Sayles, producer Maggie Renzi and some of the filmâ€™s cast led by veteran Joel Torre will attend the premier screening.
Part of the proceeds of the screening will go to the Baryo Amigo Project, a continuity project aimed at developing crafts and encouraging sustainable livelihood activities to help support the large farming and fishing communities in the film sites, as well as set up a learning center for young villagers.
