So far, there are now two candidates of Filipino descent in the most prestigious beauty contest this year. 2013 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Ariella Arida, 23, of Alaminos, Laguna, will represent the Philippines in the Miss Universe contest. Both Santos and Arida are 5’7 tall. As of May 29, 2013, 37 international beauties have been selected for the 62nd edition of the pageant.
Santos first gained fame in the Philippines when she competed in the 2006 Miss Earth beauty contest, in which she won Miss Photogenic and Miss Fontana, a corporate special award. A year later, she participated in the “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Edition 2“ aired over ABS-CBN and won second place. Santos, who was once linked to actor Jake Cuenca, also appeared in local films, including “Dobol Trobol“ opposite the late Comedy King Dolphy and Vic Sotto. She also hosted the Asian Poker Tour in 2008 and 2009.
The parents of Santos are from Bulacan and Bataan in the Philippines. But Santos was raised in Canada. Santos studied Biological Science at the University of Calgary. She is studying engineering at the University of Calgary’s Schulich School on Engineering and is working as an engineering student at the Provident Energy Ltd. in Environment Health and Safety. --
