Rome's local authorities on Monday launched an important social initiative aimed at involving citizens in charity donations and solidarity actions in favor of the capital's poor, homeless and orphans.
The project, titled "Together in Rome", is designed to collect clothes, food and other goods including baby diapers, olive oil, milk, pasta, hygiene products and blankets from families wanting to help all those who are in need.
According to the plan, a total of 10 colorful public buses will drive around the capital's 21 neighborhoods gathering the various donations from the citizens.
Rome mayor Gianni Alemanno said in a statement that the "charity buses" represent hope and joy for all the capital's children and homeless. The generosity of residents will prove their great spirit of solidarity and contribution, he said.
Last month, Alemanno opened special dormitories for the homeless in an attempt to soften the harsh winter nights. - pna
