One of the biggest developments of the year happened when conflict broke out between Ukraine and Russia. SonicWall’s Capture Labs threat research team recorded over 30,000 attempts in Ukraine in January of this year alone. By June, the number had reached 5.8 million – a shocking 18,386% increase. But it was not the only region affected.
Other cyber threats such as malware, ransomware, and crypto-jacking have also gone up at an alarming rate. Global trends do not always reflect the state of other regions, as demonstrated in Asia where ransomware and intrusion attempts were seen to rise. Cryptojacking was also the focus of many hackers for the first half of this year.
