YES, it wasn't necessary to use expletives but I just can't help it if somebody even implies that not being able to speak Pilipino(Tagalog) is not Filipino enough because as I had mentioned before, it is a form of oppression by fellow Filipinos particularly of or from Luzon who are a "minority" in terms of having a widely used and more understood Bisayan or Bisayan-based dialect/s. Are we "Mga Bis/Daks" going to tolerate the berating of our Tagalog/Tagalog speaking brethren?

I always introduce myself as "Bisdak" as though carrying a badge of pride and honor in any Filipino gathering. "Bisaya ko" is the only self-introduction in any party that will put me in a lively, happy crowd fastest.

Since more than 44% percent of Filipinos speak Cebuano and its local variants, wa na sa lugar ug panahon ang paghinambog sa Tagalog. Relatively speaking, they are a cultural and linguistic minority.

My thread is veering quite far from from what we are supposed to be discussing.

My point on this post is that we as "Bisdaks" were once envied by our fellow Pinoys in the North and the South of the country because of our fluency in the English language. But sad to note that because of the insistence of the usage of Pilipino as a medium of instruction and the flooding of mundane mind-numbing Tagalog soap operas, added by the sad period in the Philippine education system wherein enrolling in the course of Education was the way for "bobos" and "bobas" back then, to earn a college degree. It was also at this period in Philippine history that teachers, educators where maligned (which still happens today) for being poor educators which eventually produced also poor quality of graduates... And indeed we need to improve and once again regain our fame as fluent english speakers and communicators if we are to ride the bandwagon of ICT(information communication technology) corridor kay moangay tag sa dili, dako jud og sweldo ang mga nanarbabo sa call centers unya daghang kog nailhang mga amigo as well as acquaintances nga na haw-as sa ilang pagka ala-ot (economically-speaking) tungod kay naay miyembro sa pamilya nga naka trabahog call center.

I don't know why Filipinos make fun of their accents. I really admire Filipino accents. It sounds so genuine, and strong.

It gives depth and character to English when spoken.

It gives added authority, me-thinks.

Case in point, when my father used to get angry at us, when he said, "Come over here" in his Filipino accent, we, his children, would scramble for cover.

lol

one thing i learn here, people are very appreciative if you try how you speak the way they do...they don't expect me to be perfect, but they like to see when a filipino begins to embrace them through their manner of speaking with my own accent hehehe

yeah ryt...everyone must learn how to speak english...co'z it serves as a weapon wherever you go....but still when you're in the native land learn how to speak your native tongue....remember what Dr. jose rizal told us..."ang hindi marunong magmahal sa sariling wika ay higit pa ang amoy sa malansang isda"
