Grade I teachers of various private schools in Iloilo City are currently being trained for the implementation of the K+12 as they too are enjoined to adopt the program.

Division of City Schools assistant superintendent, Dr. Ma. Luz de Los Reyes, said that the K+12 rolled out this school year in basic education curriculum (BEC) as mandated by the Department of Education (DepEd) Memorandum 31, series of 2012.

The memorandum, also encouraged private schools to enhance their curriculum by embracing the K+12 program. Private schools can design their curriculum to also fit the needs of their students.

The K-12 started with the Universal Kindergarten in school year 2011-2012. Starting this school year, the new curriculum for Grade I and Grade 7 takes effect.

The assistant superintendent said that simultaneous with the K+12 was the adoption of the multi-lingual mother tongue-based, where pupils were being taught on their first language for better understanding.

De Los Reyes said that Filipino and English were being treated as separate subjects. All subject areas will be taught in their mother tongue until the second grading period while English will be introduced during the third grading period.

Meantime, Grade I teachers from public schools are up for another training on June 19-22 for the preparation of their instructional materials. K+12 program is now being implemented in all public schools in the city.

She said that they looked forward that their teachers have a complete understanding of the program since they already underwent necessary trainings prior to the start of the school year.

“There are problems but are manageable. Our teachers are excited and eager of the new program,” she said.

She added that teachers have been provided with lesson plans, teaching guide, guide curriculum and other materials for the program.

Meanwhile, first day of classes opened smoothly in Iloilo City amid the drizzle that was experienced early morning Monday.

School heads and supervisors have been instructed to accept late enrollees until Friday, according to de Los Reyes, although in their monitoring they haven’t received feedback on late registrants.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
