Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) offers scholarship

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is offering the Skills-for-Employment Scholarship Program (SESP), the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP), the Seafarers Upgrading Program (SUP) and the IT Microsoft Training Program to qualified dependents of OFW-member or the OFW as in the case of SUP.

The SESP consists of a six-month vocational or a one-year technical program for land-based or sea-based OFW-members or their beneficiaries/dependents in coordination with TESDA.

The program comes in the form of financial assistance amounting to P7,250 for six- month courses and P14,500 for the one-year.

Tuition fees shall be paid directly to the school, the remaining amount from the financial assistance shall be released to the scholar at the end of the program upon submission of the competency assessment and certification of course completion.

The EDSP is a scholarship grant offered to qualified beneficiaries/dependents of OWWA members who shall enroll in any four to five years baccalaureate course.

It shall be in the form of financial assistance amounting to P30,000 per semester.

Tuition fee shall be paid directly to the school, and in case of an excess, the remaining amount from the financial assistance shall be released to the scholar upon submission of the grades for the semester.

The SUP intends to provide job-related skills training in priority maritime courses identified by the Maritime Training Council (MTC) designed to upgrade knowledge and skills, develop expertise and update skills in accordance with technological advancements and international maritime standards.

It shall be in the form of training assistance ranging from P1,200 to P7,500.

In all cases, if the tuition or training fee exceeds the amount of financial assistance, the scholar shall shoulder the balance.

To qualify for any of the programs, the applicant must be an OWWA member or his beneficiary/dependent be duly recognized.

Beneficiary refers to spouses and children of married OFWs, and brother or sister aging not more than 21 years of age of unmarried OFWs; high school graduate/graduating and a Filipino citizen.
