HNU has new Japanese-speaking president

HNU HAS A NEW PRESIDENT
FR. FRANCISCO T. ESTEPA, SVD

Leadership is not just a matter of techne (art), but above all of skill – in religious parlance, a gift. Put in this perspective, for a leader to fully actualize his/her art, skill, talent, or gift, he/she must have the indispensable charisma to lead.

Yes, the new Holy Name University President is indisputably a leader who is imbued with an indubitable charisma. Proof is Fr. Francisco T. Estepa, SVD, has been president to several institutions and organizations like University of San Carlos in Cebu City (1999-2002), Association of Cebu Catholic Schools (2000), Cebu Amateur Athletic Association (2000), Divine Word College of Legazpi in Legazpi City (2000-2008), and Catholic Educational Association of Legazpi (2002-2008).

Fr. "Kito," as he is fondly called by friends, colleagues, and associates, holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration degree which he earned from the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. in 1997. He has also been to Nagoya, Japan to study Japanese Language and Culture in 1979. These are only a few of the achievements and work experiences of Fr. Francisco T. Estepa, SVD, the third university president of Holy Name University. His installation is scheduled this August.

Congratulations Fr. Kito and welcome back to Bohol! (Dr. Ed Babor).

Murag kaulion na gyud ko ani.

I was contemplating introducing Japanese language in the nursing curriculum in anticipation of the approval by the Senate of the free trade agreement with Japan (JPAA) when our nurses and caregivers will be given more employment access here.  Asa naman si Melrose nga una nakong na-istorya? Anyway, it seems that with a Japanese-speaking leader at the helm, HNU is poised to blaze the trail for Filipino health workers to Japan.

Japan is only 4 hours away from the Philippines. The only formidable barrier for our health workers is the language, which they are required to be functionally literate in for them to be regular workers in Japan. But there is dire shortage of nurses and caregivers here, given that this is a greying society. I think in 20 years, katunga sa mga Hapon mga retirees na.

Japanese should be introduced as an elective for those who are interested to work in Japan. I have a Filipina friend married to a Japanese who is the president of the Licensed Filipino Caregivers Association in Japan. They can take care of networking on the side of the employers.

I think that's great opportunity for the filipino nurses. And I'm sure your friend is excited to work on hiring them.
Best wishes to them all!

Yesterday HNU opened up English Week and with it there were guest speakers on the language of Japan, English, Korean, Spanish, and French.

I was giving the speech for both Fluent Spanish and English during the event. The Japanese Teacher spoke very well as he is a Filipino.

This coming week in October 3rd and 4rth we will be showwing the play the Phantom of the Opera.
The liberal arts students have been working hard on this project.

it is about a 8 act play cut down into 45 minutes to an hour in time.

The dark violent scenes were taken out as well as the kiss at the end will not be on the lips oe the the hand but placed upon the forehead.

I will be doing a write up for the play by this Sunday for Bohol Standard.

Maybe also for Bantay Balita.
