Published by the Bohol Chronicle“Have you given your best with what you have?†Tagbilaran Mayor Dan Lim asked teachers during the Department of Education educational summit held yesterday at the Cooperative Bank of Bohol conference hall.
Lim issued the challenge as he urged teachers to be true to their calling and to do their best notwithstanding the problems that they face.
The mayor pointed out that “without fear of equivocation, Tagbilaran has become a showcase of government concern for public school education.â€
“While many parents are wondering how they will be able to send their children to school, we are giving them all the support that we can give – free school uniforms, school bags, school supplies and lately raincoats and umbrellas,†he revealed.
While many pupils do not have a classroom to study, Lim said the city equips every classroom with ceiling fans and hopefully with its own comfort room.
He said that while other teachers do not enjoy official support for their tasks, the city constantly attends to their needs even though they are not directly under its jurisdiction.
“And yet, all of you know that in spite of all these, we still have a long way to go. While you are the object of envy of other teachers, you yourself admit that there is still much to be done as far as improving our system of education - enough to ensure that the children you teach today will be positive contributions to society in the future,†he said.
