By David S. Maulas

The Central Student Government (CSG) of Holy Name University breaks new grounds by staging the country’s premier balladeer, Christian Bautista, in a concert performance at Janssen Heights Campus Oval on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m., in time for its intramurals.

Christian Bautista will be joined by local hands as front acts in the event dubbed “A Night of Rock ‘n Ballad.”  This is the singing icon’s debut performance in the city.

The next day highlights Intrams Disco at the HNU high school gym also sponsored by the CSG.
The much-awaited interdepart-ment cheerdance competition is on Sept. 14 at Janssen Heights Campus Oval with an expected jam-packed crowd.  On its 3rd edition, this event promises still to be the university’s most colorful and exciting spectacle.

These three nightly events are co-presented by Pepsi Cola, City Sangguniang Kabataan Federation, David Salon, Dragon Fireworks and Dunkin’ Donuts, Superferry, Bohol Quality Mall and Nature’s Spring.
The core Intramural Games slated from September 11-14 are basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, chess, lawn tennis, table tennis, track and field, badminton, sepak takraw, taekwondo, and swimming.

In an attempt to preserve Filipino traditional games, siato is the newest addition to the games.  According to Marianito Luspo, the activity organizer, siato is “only a pilot edition of what is going to be an institutionalized heritage games in the succeeding year.”

At the helm of all preparation for the Intramurals is Fr. Felino B. Javines, the vice-president for administration assisted by Nemesia Guirigay, athletics coordinator.

Friendly advise for Dave Maulas and CSG officials
A few issues ago, we reported about the behavior of the HNU Central Student Government (CSG) officers.

True got a text message informing that “nasuko ang taga CSG regarding your article sa Sunday Post. Nagsupport baya sila kay attend gud sila og meetings. (The CSG officials are angry of your article in Sunday Post. They supported (the event) because they attended meetings).” Do you know that you “threatened” the organizers to withdraw your support for the school’s new “project?”

Here’s a piece of advice for student leader Dave Maulas cum big fan of Christian Bautista who seemed to be overwhelmed by youthful clamor and childish fancy.

His “project” of staging a concert of Christian Bautista has not in anyway promote values and character for the students to learn from. The concert was a lavish display of irresponsible and wasteful decision from a critical figure. And a band concert was held lately. VRS reported that the concerts have not garnered enough revenue.

First and foremost, a student leader must be crafty and wise in his decisions. Student governments are ideal training grounds for quality leaders in the future. Student leaders are critical figures in the campus being the role models.

Hence, a student leader’s decisions and actions must profess primarily the concern on the welfare and interest of the studentry—not on wasteful clamor and childish fancy as what Dave Maulas has explicitly implied in his “concert” project!

Yet, Dave Maulas is still young and he’s entitled to grow and learn from mistakes.. and so with the other CSG officials. I hope that he/they will not be stubborn and eventually learn from this mistake.
