The Bicol Regional Science High School (BRSHS) here has been given allocation by the Department of Education (DepEd) a fresh amount of P1.150 million in additional subsidy to augment its regular allotment for maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE) this year.
The amount is based on a fixed and a variable allocation of P2,000 per student based on the current enrollment of the school, a DepEd order issued last January 19 and received by the BRSHS over the weekend said.
Eduardo Nañoz, the school principal, said that the order carries an instruction that 25 percent of the amount be spent in training and professional development of teachers and officials directly involved in managing the school as well as expenses for students’ participation in Science and Mathematics-related activities conducted by the DepEd.
Another 25 percent would go to the procurement of supplies and materials to support students’ researches and projects and to extra-essential services to support the school’s operations such as janitorial and security services, Nañoz said.
The order also stipulates that 20 percent of the fund should be used to purchase Science and Mathematics equipment including repair and maintenance of previously owned equipment, laboratory tools, including upgrading of computers, he said.
The next 18 percent is for the procurement of instructional materials such as textbooks for Science, Mathematics, English and other subject areas, professional books, video materials and software for these subjects as well as internet subscription, the school head said.
Finally, he said the remaining 12 percent would be for used to settle water and electric bills.
