Four Filipino teachers stationed in China’s northern provinces of Liaoning and Jilin have been named by the provincial government as “Outstanding Foreign Experts.â€
Frederick S. Lomibao was cited for his work as an English-language teacher, and the recognition buoyed up the pride and spirits of Filipinos in China, which recently arrested a former Filipino teacher in the southern province of Guangdong on charges of drug-smuggling.
Lomibao received his award from Liaoning Governor Chen Zhenggao and was cited “for his outstanding contribution to the economic, scientific, technological, educational and cultural development of the province,†according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
The DFA also reported that three Filipino teachers in neighboring Jilin province to include Ma. Socorro Rodriguez, Arnel Genzola and Lileth Mesias Reyes also received the “Outstanding Foreign Expert†award†from the Jilin Provincial Government.
They were cited “for their contributions to the province's economic and social development†and the DFA’s report did not say in what field the three were being recognized.
Lomibao told the Philippine embassy in Beijing that the award “will not only bring honor to our country but also give inspiration to other Filipinos at home and abroad.â€
Lomibao has been teaching English in China for six years, and is now employed at a private school in Liaoning’s Yingkou City. “When I was with the other awardees, I (felt) very proud representing our country (in China),†he added. - PNA
