The decision of the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) to phase out three curricular offerings of the Pangasinan State University (PSU) campus in Alaminos was hailed by a private college president here.
Ruben Morante, president of the PASS College, considers it a moral victory on his part after being informed that PSU Alaminos cannot offer any more Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, BS in Hotel and Restaurant Management and BS in Information Technology this school year.
CHEd Regional Director Caridad Abuan told a media forum in Dagupan City that these courses, offered by PSU Alaminos during its first year of operation in 2010-2011, are among the courses put under moratorium by her office.
She said these courses, along with BS in Nursing are considered over-subscribed courses in view of their big number of enrollment
But in the forum “Media in Action’, Abuan said PSU Alaminos can still offer Teacher’s Education this school year despite being among the oversubscribed courses, but only as an extension of the bigger PSU campus in Lingayen.
PSU Alaminos, according to Abuan, can also offer B.S. in Agriculture and Fisheries but must first secure permits from CHEd for these.
Morante said he feels vindicated after being threatened with a libel suit by Alaminos City Mayor Hernani Braganza for questioning the legality of PSU Alaminos and insinuating that graft could have been committed in the transaction between the Alaminos City and PSU.
