Unity of Catigbianons
« on: June 28, 2009, 08:29:31 PM »
The spirit of unity and cooperation prevailed among Catigbianons during the 5th Katigbawan Festival that commemorated the 60th founding anniversary of the town on June 15-17.

“We had gathered the biggest crowd Catigbian ever had through this celebration, and shown to the whole world that Catigbian has many things to offer,” according to second-termer Mayor Roberto Salinas.

Katigbawan Festival was conceived during the mayor’s first term of office.

Salinas designed it to promote the best of the town and to change its image from being the rebels’ haven into a haven of peace and development.

Based on the theme, “Tapok-tapok Catigbianon ngadto sa Kalambuan”, this year’s celebration officially kicked off on June 14 with a thanksgiving mass officiated by the newly-installed parish priest of the Immaculate Conception, Rev. Fr. Danilo Maniwan.

On June 15, the best agricultural products were displayed in 22 well-decorated booths at the Catigbian Livestock Auction Center.

Barangay Poblacion won the Most Artistic Booth, while barangay Baang won the Best Booth award.

Vice-Governor Julius Caesar Herrera, First District Representative Edgar Chatto and Department Agriculture (DA) Regional Executive Director Ricardo Oblena and town officials graced the opening program and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The carabao pageant amazed the audience with an extraordinary show at the school oval with colorful carts and the escort cowboys, representing different nations.

Among the stunts that amazed the crowd that jam-packed the school oval were the carabao’s prowess in walking while kneeling, rolling from one side to the other and backward walking.

The Carabao of the Year award and the Best Cowboy award went to Barangay Mantacida, while the Best in Costume went to Barangay Rizal, and the Best in Parade award went to Barangay Causwagan Norte.

Four local teams, competing in the first-ever Katigbawan Rodeo, braved through the heavy rain.

It was sponsored by the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, Ubay Stock Farm, DA, Bureau of Animal Industry and CVSCAFT-Bilar campus.

Weste team composed of Barangay Poblacion Weste, Sinakayanan, Haguilanan and Bongbong emerged champion in four categories.

Later in the afternoon, the traditional karambola of fighting cocks brought entertainment to the revelers at the Catigbian Cockpit Arena.

Meanwhile, boxing aficionados and enthusiasts assembled at the Catigbian Gymnasium to witness the championship fight among amateur boxers from different parts of Bohol in the 1st Congressman Edgar Chatto Boxing Cup where the Catigbian team grabbed the highest award with four golds, five silvers and three bronze medals.

Of the 100 Catigbianons now based in other parts of the country and abroad, contacted through email and letters, only 38 made it.

“Though only few Catigbianons made it, the impact was gigantic because it moved emotions,” according to Salinas, a retired navy captain.

Charito Lurot-Magno, a native of barangay Hagbuaya, left the town in 1990 to try her luck in Manila where she studied her college as working student, and later landed a job and now managing her own business.

“I’m so happy that Catigbianons still remember me, I feel so honored that I am invited here. I am so proud to be a Catigbianon. Wherever I go, I’m not ashamed of my roots, especially today that Catigbian is soaring so high,” she said.

After the welcome program at the conference hall, the group and the beneficiaries of the municipal scholarship program proceeded to Dagook Falls where they shared a sumptuous lunch.

At the entrance of the falls, the newly organized Tribu Katigbi Dance Troupe of the Abatan River Upstream Eco-Tour presented a welcome dance that allured the Kaliwat Catigbianons.

They trekked the one-kilometer hilly place, explored caves with virgin stalactites and stalagmites in barangay Bongbong, then managed to roam around the now spruced-up municipal hall and the biggest livestock center.

Later, the dinner-for-a-cause followed with 108 Catigbianons and stretched the evening to the welcome dinner for the Tanda Kaliwat Catigbianon at the Catigbian Business Activity Center.

History had it that Balilihan, which branched from the then larger Baclayon, produced Catigbian. Catigbian, later, produced San Isidro. This made the municipal officials of Baclayon, Balilihan and San Isidro recognize the significance of joining Catigbianons in the celebration.

Later in the evening, Mayor Salinas and wife, Nerissa Yap-Salinas Coronation of the Diamond Jubilee King and Queen took the center stage at 8:30 o’clock in the evening. Mayor BertSal and Mrs. Nerissa Yap-Salinas bequeathed their crown, cape and scepter as Golden Jubilee King and Queen 1999 to Captain and Mrs. Nicasio Ladroma, in the presence of award-winning actor/director Cesar Montano and his actress wife, Sunshine Cruz.

Fr. Maniwan and Fr. Angcla of Immaculate Conception Parish and Sto.Niño Parish expressed gratitude to the local government for the donation of P40,000 to each parish, taken from the proceeds of the Diamond Jubilee King and Queen 2009 pageant.

On June 17, the 60th founding anniversary kicked off with the turn-over of farm-to-market road projects of the Agrarian Reform Community Development Project (ARCDP-2) and the launching of additional Agrarian Reform Communities (ARC) called as CHABBMANS.

Chatto, Department of Agrarian Reform Provincial Head Johnson Sinco, Provincial Board Member Yul Lopez and PB Member Alfonso Damalerio II graced the activity where the congressman distributed to 136 BHWs, some BHW kits bearing the slogan “First Wealth is Health”.

The annual street-dancing and showdown competition followed after lunch at the Catigbian Sports Oval where 17 elementary schools, four public and private secondary schools in Catigbian,  Immaculata High School of Baclayon, CVSCAFT-Balilihan Campus and San Isidro DepEd high school teachers competed.

This year, nine elementary schools participated in the showdown in the elementary category, while five high schools- -including Immaculata High School of Baclayon- -participated in the showdown.

Tribu Dagook of Central West Elementary School emerged champion in the elementary category taking home cash price of P10,000 and a trophy. The group also won the best in costume, best in street dancing and best in choreography.

In high school category, Immaculate Mary Academy defeated the defending champion, Catigbian National High School. The group received P25,000 and trophy, sweeping along the Best in Street Dancing and Best in Choreography awards and left the Best in Costume award to Catigbian National High School.

The festivity clinched with a ten-minute fireworks display courtesy of the generous benefactors-Mayor and Mrs. Roberto Salinas, Chief Engr. Themistocles and Vice Necie Digaum, Engr. and Mrs. Vicente Salinas, Mr. Al and Dr. Virgilia Redulla, Engr. and Mrs. Nestor Lurot and Councilor and Mrs. Teofredo Tongco. - the bohol chronicle, source

Romans 10:9-10
"If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."
