Catigbian Mayor Salinas gives cash incentives to sport achievers
Sunday Post
“Giving cash incentives to our sports achievers, is our way of encouraging athletes to excel in the field of sports. Now that we have this program, I have observed that our athletes are pushing hard to bring home the bacon every time they engaged in competitionâ€.
Thus said Catigbian Mayor Roberto Salinas as he honored outstanding athletes in the municipality with cash incentives.
Around 261 pupils and students from public and private schools both elementary and high school level who shown exemplary performance during the 2009 provincial, congressional and BACS meets received cash incentives from the local government unit ranging from P200 to P500 depending on the medal/award received.
It may be recalled that sports development was part of the SMILE platform of governance under the Salinas-Digaum administration which is strengthened through the passing of a municipal ordinance giving incentives to students who excel in the field of sports in the year 2008. Regular yearly appropriation is being incorporated in the Annual Budget to ensure that the program will be carried-out.
Local DepEd authorities informed the local government that 12 athletes, six from elementary and six from high school are qualified to compete in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Meet on February 6-12, 2010 in Danao City.
