Averting another potential case of unusually alarming cases of water-borne diseases in the town, Catigbian Mayor Roberto Salinas told the media that they would purchase and would put up automatic chlorinators in their water sources.

Catigbian made it to the news weeks back due to reported alarming cases of gastroenteritis, which was ascribed to the patients' drinking of contaminated water.

Reports also stated that in two months, as many as 89 cases were admitted in the local hospital, including the ones referred to Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital and other city treatment centers.

Almost all the cases have been traced to come from barangays Candumayao, Causwagan, Alegria and Poblacion, typically those served by the Poblacion pumping unit where chlorination is done manually.

It was a hard lesson we learned and that is why we have to put up the automatic chlorinators, Salinas said even as he thanked there were no fatalities during the incident.

"We are processing the papers now for the town to purchase at least 5 or six automatic chlorinators to be installed in our existing five and in our upcoming two more water sources," the mayor said.

It is sad that the decision came this late, but it was a lesson we would never forget, Salinas said, recounting the incident.

We also called a special council meeting so we could legally use our municipal disaster funds so we could have a source for financial assistance to the victims, he added.

About two weeks after the incident, the town hosted the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) meeting and there was not much of a trace of the alarming incident that happened.

"That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved."
