Che Toribio rides high in Carmen mayoralty
"When the going gets tough, the tough gets going" is a familiar saying that best described the foray of Che Toribio in the Carmen mayoralty derby.
With the elections drawing near, the Carmen electorate especially the discerning ones have come to realize that the woman they associate with a steely resolve is after all a gentle creature with a soft spot in her heart for the poor people.
To those who do not know Conchita Che Toribio up close and personal, may just dismiss her as one candidate people love to hate.
But deep inside, she is known to be well-loved by the Carmen people especially those whom she has touched their lives.
It is therefore no surprise if one tries to ask the persona of Toribio in Carmen and the usual repartee is that she’s the talk of the town because she’s the kind who is easy to go with.
As she stakes her refutation as the next mayor of Carmen, the local electorate sees in her the hope of the Carmen folk.
Whether the problem is to send children to school, care for a sick relative, concern for the homeless and unemployed, all this make Toribio the one to turn to in times of need.
In a recent interview, Toribio said "my heart bleeds for my kababayans in Carmen nga lisud kaayo ang mga kahimtang sa kinabuhi ug pagpanginabuhi".
The woman whose heart bleeds for the poor has also her own vision for the town.
As center of Bohol tourism, if elected, she wants her town to remain as world class tourist destination. Along with eco-tourism, she also wants Carmen to become and agro-industrial town by utilizing resources from the LGU to provide proper training and assistance to the people.
Also part of her executive agenda was to enhance the talents, skills and ability of Carmenanons, creating public awareness, accountability and transparency in government business transactions from the municipal down to the barangay level.
Her message to the people of Carmen-" Let's keep that burning desire to serve the public, I don't see any reason why Carmen will not soar higher than what we expected, aim high and make Carmen a better place to live in. Let's create a lasting legacy for the next generation of leaders in our land." (EAM) - Sunday Post
