LEO MOTORS TO SUPPLY ELECTRIC VEHICLES TO THE PHILIPPINES

The Philippines is full of tricycles. In fact, there are some 2.2 million motorized rickshaws, known as tricycles or traysikels, in the country. Most of these are powered by very dirty engines that don't have any real emissions equipment and the government recognizes that this is a major problem. To help remedy the situation, the Philippines entered into an agreement with Leo Motors to create a joint venture to build new electric taxis. A $5 million contribution by the government will get the ball rolling, and Leo Motors is to provide at least 2,500 electric vehicle kits, including batteries that will be assembled by the newly formed company. Each unit will be powered by a lithium polymer battery that can either be recharged in the vehicle or swapped out at designated "Fresh Battery Stations" that are also to be built by the joint venture. The first city to get the EVs will be Puerto Princesa, the capital of the province of Palawan.

PRESS RELEASE:

Leo Motors Signs a Major Contract with the Philippines Government to Supply $15 Million in Electric Vehicles

LAS VEGAS, NV. October 21, 2008: Leo Motors, Inc. (OTC: LEOM) announced today that it has signed a major contract with the city government of Puerto Princesa, of the Republic of the Philippines, to form a company to produce electric vehicles to sell in Puerto Princesa, and also throughout Asia.

The agreement includes minimum numbers of vehicles to be produced, as well as monetary contributions of up to $5 million by the government of the Philippines. The city government of Puerto Princesa, the capital of the province of Palawan, agreed to form a joint company to set up an assembly plant to supply the electric taxis and help manage the program financially. Leo Motors will supply knock-down parts and batteries for minimum 2,500 electric taxis to the joint company, and the city will subsidize 200 million Pesos (approximately $5 million U.S.). Before selecting Leo Motors, Mayor Hagedorn visited Leo Motors' factory in Seoul, and selected the model over other competitive models for being able to drive long distances and maintain peak power without losing battery power, in addition to ease of recharging.

Puerto Princesa is seeking to eliminate the pollution emitted by numerous tricycles, which emit carbons and pollution 15 times more than a typical passenger car. The city decided to create a tricycle that would make the air more breathable.

Leo Motors CEO & President Mr. John Lee said, "I am very proud that Leo Motors has signed this major agreement with the government. This contract will serve as the momentum for Leo Motors to be the leader of EV industry."

Electric vehicles to be produced by Leo Motors are 100% battery powered, and are fueled by recharging, rather than refueling at a petrol station. In the Leo Motors program in Puerto Princesa, to lower the initial E-Taxi purchasing cost, Leo Motors, together with the city in a joint venture, will operate the Fresh Battery Station, which is a battery swap center. When completed, drivers will not need to buy expensive batteries. Recharging is a simple process, which involves swapping a discharged battery for a fully charged battery, or plugging in the innovative quick charger to top up the battery at the battery swap center. Leo Motors' advances in cutting-edge battery and charger technology are dramatically improving vehicle recharge times. Battery swaps will not take more than five minutes. When completed, the center would always be available for drivers with freshly and fully recharged batteries.

Leo Motors enjoys many technical advantages over existing better known companies in acceleration, mileage and shorter charge time. Leo Motors extends the longevity of the expensive Lithium Polymer Battery through new inventions, called Omni BMS and PCM, which digitally manage and control the battery charging. Leo Motor's Super Lithium Polymer Battery Pack has the highest energy density and longest life ever developed. Such technologies are not found easily, even in the most expensive electric vehicles in the market. Lead Acid Batteries are not being used for this project because of their lower life, huge weight and contamination of the lands where disposed.

Electric cars are in the news almost daily. Large manufacturers and startups appear to be responding aggressively to changing circumstances and customer preferences. In the Philippines alone, there are 2.2 million tricycles. Neighboring countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia have more than 10 million tricycles contaminating the air. Leo Motors will have vast business opportunities in this region.

Sometimes in 2007, Philippines introduces the Eagle G-car
While it looks rather weird in design, this compact electric vehicle is inspired after the eagle, and has an operational range of 80km and a maximum speed of 60 km/h per charge. Charging the battery is fairly cheap which estimated about 4-8 hours. Eagle G-Car is made of fiber glass and is about to be sold from Php 140,000 to Php 280,000 ($3300.00 - $6600.00).

This vehicle can be cost effecient and environment friendly pa gjud. But sad to hear that they were never labeled as street worthy and are now just tourist attractions in the Quezon City area.  Angayan baya atong ipatronize ang "SARILING ATIN"...besides it's good looking and fancy vehicle.  We just need to start somewhere.

This is an excellent idea if seen purely as a means of transportation, but you know in Bohol you take a lot of things with you, don´t forget habal-habal!

One should also consider the maintenance and servicing of this car, spare parts and technicians in the vicinity to name  a few in case this car breaksdown.

This is not habal-habal sa Bohol, it is skylab from Davao.

Habal-habal is just practical transport going to upper parts of Bohol towns, kanang medju lisud na biyahe patungas and hard to access roads...while electric vehicles are merely practical mostly paingun sa trabaho, leisure and limited to city or towns roads.

On maintenance, as I checked the circuitry which is common to these vehicles, electrical and electronic replacement parts can be available locally and an experienced electrical technician with dedication can mend to troubleshoot this ride ug mas sayon ni siya i-mentain. Of course pagka-karon wa' pa'y service shops for these vehicles, mag-depende man gud 'na sa equation of supply and demand.

An option to save electricity while charging this vehicle is, you can set up a Battery Charger for your vehicle-tapping the Sun's radiation to supply electricity-FREE ELECTRIC POWER FROM NATURE.
Using similar system, whenever dunay brownout (power failure) sa BOHECO-II di' kaayo problema - I have it ready to back-up my domestic electricity needs mostly lightings, of course for a limited period lang but it really helped a lot, nowadays, I'm putting up a system to power the  AC & refrigerator-hope to complete this year.

I could imagine a solar powered generator to be eco-friendly, also in case of brown-outs.

manay tess, if you travel by road from davao city to butuan, you will see these contraptions called skylab along the highway in the davao norte-comval-agusan sur areas. i used to traveled this stretch of highway every week for almost one year in 2005 and i always encountered this very dangerous mode of transportation in said areas.

It is dangerous, indeed! mas safer ang habal-habal dinhe sa ato compared to that skylab.

Do you know daghan baya mga school teachers na-assign sa medju bukid nga schools sa Bohol unya naminyo ug habalx2 drivers-sila ang kanunay magkauban and the love story begins...No offense please-PEACE- nabihag sa habalx2 he hehehe...

Mam Hofelina: You are in Germany, so aware gjud ka sa solar power, you are living in the world's solar power hub. Solar power gensets are bulky and include some enclosures however they are good for mobile services, while setting up your system in your backyard is an option too. Yes - they are absolutely environment friendly!

Electric Vehicle: This system is always around us, tan-awa ang mga toys sa mga bata - the simple battery powered toys.

While a very common electric powered transport is the Golf carts and the Forklifts usually seen sa mga golf courses, airports and warehouses.

Electric [battery] powered golf cars were also our transport in Oil loading platforms [offshore], those were the only allowed in gas hazardous areas with KNPC Refinery in Kuwait, charging were done overnight and used to run from platforms during the day-the electricity was almost free in their government facilities.

Electric vehicle would be environment friendly and economical, mostly when the batteries are re-charged by Solar chargers.

electric vehicles are only environment-friendly if its batteries are charged from a slar source. however, if its batteries are charged through the socket on the wall which provides electricity that is generated mostly from fossil fuels, then these electric vehicles are not really environment-friendly.
