Depositors of the closed Pilipino Rural Bank (PRBank) Tagbilaran Branch who have been promised swift payment of their insured deposits are dismayed by the slow process of getting their money back.
Since personnel from the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) left the closed bank last December, the deposit insurer has not returned to process insurance claims.
Engr. Abdon Anora, one of PRBank’s hundreds of depositors, told the Chronicle that not one depositor had been given papers to accomplish for the return of their money since PRBank was placed under receivership and no insurance claims had been released yet.
An advisory released by the PDIC stated that deposits not going beyond the P250,000 insurance limit will be processed first. Deposits exceeding the insured amount would have to wait until PRBank assets had been liquidated.
However, no PDIC personnel had accommodated so far bank clients here inquiring about the status of their deposits.
PDIC Communications Stakeholders Relations Group head Auramar Calbario said in a statement that it would take a while to release any money claims.
Calbario said the examiners would have to make a master list of all the depositors before starting the process.
“PDIC will pay all valid claims for deposit insurance of depositors,†the PDIC statement said.
On January 29, PDIC Vice President and Comptroller Geronimo Ambe, a native of Ubay town, will be meeting with PRBank depositors upon request of Gov. Erico Aumentado, according to Anora. - source: The Bohol Chronicle
