Tagbilaran City Facing Water Crisis

The Tagbilaran City Waterworks System is faced with limitations causing the deteriorating water service to its water subscribers in the city

Newly installed waterworks chief Engr. Servando Acedo admitted the increasing complaints on the water service is due to the limited pumping units amid financial constraints in putting up new water sources.

Acedo, who previously was assigned at the City Engineering's Office, now heads the waterworks vice Engr. Wellington Pilongo who is reportedly on a "forced leave."

Although Acedo also admitted to be new in his job, he is sure that the city lacks pumping units and water sources which trigger these complaints from their subscribers in in Taloto, Ubujan and Mangga.

Acedo said that as of now, the city waterworks has 19 pumping units with two out of service. However, he said that even if the 19 units will function, it is still no enough to satisfy the water consumers in the city.

"We cannot fill our reservoirs because we have no water sources which are affordable relative to our current budget", Acedo explained.

However, Acedo said that they already have plans to upgrade their resources in order to somehow deliver sufficient supply of water. He said that they will propose to the city government for additional pumping units.

"We already have a development plan on how to address the problem on water supply and we will present this plan to the city government", Acedo added.

Acedo said that water supply for the new pumping units will be taken somewhere from Barangays Tip-Tip and Cabawan. The city waterworks also considered water sources from outside the city such as from Corella town. However, they will first utilize sources within the city in order to minimize expenses.

Engr. Acedo appealed for consideration on the part of the water consumers as the plan to tap additional water sources will still be a long shot solution which can not be done overnight.
