Suspect of P2-Million Burglary at Tagbilaran Airport
« on: February 12, 2008, 10:41:26 PM »
The Bohol Chronicle

The P2-million burglary of runway lights, transformers and insulators was virtually solved with the voluntary surrender of the suspects to Gov. Erico Aumentado yesterday.

The prime suspect who will turn state witness was escorted by his father to the residence of the governor yesterday noon to provide other information leading to the case.

The parent of the prime suspect surfaced yesterday after he heard the "fatherly" appeal of Gov. Aumentado aired last Thursday during the top-rated dyRD "Tagbilaran-By-Nite."

"Nakonsensya ko, human nakabati sa hangyo ni Gobernor," the father narrated when interrogated by PNP Provl Director Edgardo Ingking and City Police chief Jacinto Cesar in the presence of the governor.

"Junil" will turn state witness while other suspects remain at large.

Col. Cesar said that other suspects will be picked up momentarily.

The stolen items were admitted to have been sold to city-based junk shops at very low cost as they were considered as scrap iron. Mayor Dan Lim immediately ordered the closure of all junk shops here.

Meanwhile, Gov. Aumentado received the assurance that the runway lights be restored by the Air Transportation Office (ATO) central offices after the governor personally met with top ATO officials in Manila last week.

The security of the airport and safety of the planes is our prime concern, the governor said when he swung into action to order the police for the manhunt and at the same time asked ATO to replace the stolen runway lights.
