Nilugmaw ang pila ka lugas nga luha human nakog basa sa balita mahitungod sa nahiaguman sa atong mga igsoon sa Mindanao...nagkinahanglan sila sa atong tabang...

Korek pud! We must do our share in making these people feel the spirit of brotherhood and Christmas. Kalooy baja pud nila.

In this photo released by the Philippine Army, residents dig through the rubble following a landslide that occurred at the small-scale mining community of Pantukan, Compostela Valley in southern Philippines Thursday Jan. 5, 2012. The landslide tore through a small-scale gold mining site in the southern Philippines on Thursday, months after government officials warned miners that the mountain above them was guaranteed to crumble. Three survivors found even as death toll from 'Pablo' mounts
ERIK DE CASTRO, REUTERS December 6, 2012 6:19pm

NEW BATAAN, Compostela Valley — Rescue workers found Thursday a 54-year-old man who had survived on coconuts for two days after a powerful typhoon ravaged Mindanao, killing 332 people with hundreds still missing.

A group of rescue volunteers lifted Carlos Agang to safety after they found him, in a tattered shirt with a fractured leg and bruises, clinging to a boulder by a river in this town in Compostela Valley, the province worst hit by Typhoon Pablo [Bopha].

"I can't believe it. I didn't expect to see people survive two days after they were swept by flood and mud," fire volunteer Mark Roman Jumilla told Reuters.

"For two days, he survived on coconut and water. He lost his family when floodwaters swept a temporary shelter area where he and his family sought refuge," Jumilla said.

Rescuers also found alive a pregnant woman on the other side of the river with her one-year son who escaped floods that swamped their house after Pablo hit land on Tuesday.

"It happened so fast. Water came rushing to us while we were leaving our house to move to safer grounds," Lenlen Medrano, 23, told Reuters as she was being carried by soldiers in a stretcher.

"I prayed hard over and over until we found ourselves on the riverbank," she added.

A Reuters photographer saw four bodies near the spot where Agang was rescued. The river's current was strong, making it hard for rescue teams to reach other survivors.

Typhoon Pablo, with central winds of up to 115 kph (71 mph) and gusts of up to 145 kph (90 mph), was moving west-northwest of the central Philippines and was expected to be over the South China Sea on Friday.

Hundreds missing

The head of the national disaster agency said 332 people were killed and 379 were missing after Pablo triggered landslides and floods along the coast and in farming and mining towns inland in the southern Mindanao region.

The death toll could rise further, with local government officials reporting higher numbers of missing and dead.

About 20 typhoons hit the Philippines every year, often causing death and destruction. Almost exactly a year ago, Storm Sendong killed 1,500 people in Mindanao.

Arturo "Arthur" Uy, governor of Compostela Valley, said the latest estimates show 200 died and almost 600 remained missing in his province. Official tally by the disaster agency earlier on Thursday show 184 died and 356 missing in Compostela Valley.

Uy said search and rescue operations were continuing, particularly in far-flung areas in New Bataan town, where a three-year old child was plucked from under a crumpled house on Wednesday, more than 24 hours after the typhoon made landfall. The child's mother and a sibling are missing.

"I believe we can rescue more people," Uy told Reuters.

"This is the first time a typhoon with signal number 3 crossed our province. We evacuated people from riverbanks and shorelines. But the floods and strong winds battered not just the riverbanks but also places where residents were supposed to be safe."

Uy said a village hall, health centre and covered court in New Bataan, where residents took shelter ahead of the typhoon, were completely washed away by floods and mud.

Nearly 200,000 people remained in shelters in more than a dozen provinces in Mindanao, as officials appealed for food, water and clothing.

A few residents in Compostela Valley started repairing their houses, while housewives washed mud-drenched clothes and used fallen trees for cooking in makeshift stoves outside homes. But for majority, rebuilding will not be easy.

"I don't know what to do now," coconut farmer Roger Calarian told Reuters while queueing for a rice ration at the center of New Bataan town. "I lost my house, I lost my livelihood. I want to rebuild my hut but I don't think I have the energy to do that now."

Calarian said he and his wife were lucky to have survived when coconut trees crashed on their house on Tuesday. "We prayed, hugged each other until the winds calmed down, and then we crawled out to safety," he added.

Environment Secretary Ramon Paje said small-scale mining is partly to blame for the disaster, adding officials of Compostela Valley gave out mining permits even if the national government has not allowed small scale mining in the area. — Reuters

Most illegal logging 'hot spots' located in 'Pablo'-hit provinces — DENR chief

About 80 percent of the remaining illegal logging “hot spots” in the country are located in the provinces hardest hit by Typhoon Pablo, which left a trail of devastation in the Visayas and Mindanao, Environment Secretary Ramon Paje said Thursday.

Paje said the remaining hot spots are concentrated in Region 13 (Caraga Region) and Region 11 (Davao Region), which includes Compostela Valley, where the highest number of fatalities from Typhoon Pablo was recorded.

“This is now proving that total log ban is right,” Paje said. “Several quarters are criticizing the declaration of a total log ban, but look at what happened?”

He was referring to Executive Order 23 that President Benigno Aquino III issued in February 2011. The order stopped all authorized logging operations in natural forests nationwide, virtually halting timber extraction of about 300 million board feet a year.

Paje said the implementation of EO 23 has drastically reduced the illegal logging hot spots to 31 from a high of 197.

Disaster management officials said over 300 died from “Pablo,” most of them from New Bataan town in Compostela Valley. Hundreds more were still missing as of Thursday afternoon.

Paje said the tragedy shows “that we really must stop timber harvesting especially in our natural forests.”

Task force

Aside from the presence of communist insurgents in the illegal logging hot spots, Paje said they also have to deal with fully-armed groups employed by the illegal loggers.

“That’s why lately, Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and myself, and the chiefs of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police, signed a resolution converting the anti-illegal logging operations in Mindanao into a military operation,” he said.

Resolution No. 2012-005 of the Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force (AILTF) empowers the military to monitor illegal mining in Mindanao. The military-led anti-illegal logging drive will begin this month.

“We have requested the military to take the lead because the groups in these areas are armed and we have lost so many employees already in these areas. Good thing the AFP has agreed and starting this month, the anti-illegal logging campaign is now a military operation in Mindanao,” he said. — KBK, GMA News

Worst case scenario for Bopha:

Maglandfall sa tip of Northern Luzon, then mag-u-turn pabalik sa Pilipinas na pud then make landfall again sa Bicol then Southern Luzon.

Kani nga model gikan ni sa Weather Underground nga website: http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/wp201226_ensmodel.html

Naunsa man nis Pablo intawon mura man ug nanungog. Pero unta ug dili na ni mahitabo pa ug magbag-o na ang conditions aron matunaw na nis dagat!

One of my bestfriends is a policewoman, they went to ComVal last Saturday, according to her, daghan man nagapanghatag na ug relief goods didto.. the death toll counts 600+ and still rising pa, daghan pa gyud daw natabunan.. kadtong 18 ka sundalo nga morescue unta atong panahon sa bagyo, all of them died.. out of 18, 15 ra ang na retrieved.. ang ilang gisakyan, nakasugat ug kanang "rumaragasang" tubig gikan sa bukid.. and what the people need is DRINKING WATER gyud.. gamay ra man manghatag ug drinking water, ang daghan kay mga pinutos nga food nga naa permi hulagway sa politicians, lahi pa tong sa tarpaulin...

Kani gyud si jinggoy... ang ebidensya nya lolla ha...

Sen. Jinggoy Estrada Distributes Relief Goods with his Ugly Face on the Packages.

Sen. Jinggoy Estrada visited the Typhoon Pablo ravaged areas in Mindanao a couple of days ago to distribute much needed relief goods. The desperate and hungry victims were eager to receive the necessary supplies from the law maker but it was obvious that Sen. Jinggoy was not there to purely extend his helping hand to the casualties. You see, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada went to the typhoon devastated location to make himself known and remembered as their Savior and he made sure that the people will remember him because his ugly face is printed all over the bags of the relief goods.

Can you imagine the evilness of these politicians? The poor folks in that typhoon wasted region have already lost their families, their livelihood, their homes and yet these a** politicians take advantage of their dilemma. Politicians are really the worst bunch of opportunistic bastards that ever walked this Earth. These political leeches thrive on the suffering , torment and weakness of the poor and the innocent. Every opening break is always taken advantage by these bastards!

Why can't these SOBs just give their relief goods to the victims without their ugly, unscrupulous and devious faces painted all over the packages? The storm victims will remember those who helped them so it was not necessary to plaster Sen. Jinggoy Estrada's s***-like face on the parcels of food aid. What Sen. Jinggoy did was a devious and cunning scheme to assure his victory in the upcoming Elections. This Senator is an a** and people all over the country should stop voting and electing pricks like him in any Government position.

This country needs leaders that are honest, morally upright and God fearing to help make the lives of all Filipinos better. We don't need opportunistic bastards like Sen. Jinggoy Estrada!!!

this calls for a specific thread here in tb for such SOB politicians.  anyone who comes across (on the internet and personally, with camera ready to take pictures) a politician committing epal (names and pictures on relief packages, names and pictures on infrastructure project sites, etc.) please post what you have at the thread EPAL Politicians in the TALK OF THE TOWN board.  then we may be guided on who to vote for or not.

we say enough of politicians who defy the most basic of decent behavior.

The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has suspended sea travel of a cargo vessel and a passenger ship after both incurred damages at the height of Tropical Depression Auring on Thursday in Dumaguete City.

Chief Petty Officer Ruben Caluscusin, deputy station commander of the Philippine Coast Guard in Dumaguete, disclosed Friday the MARINA has ordered the immediate suspension of the cargo vessel, SF Navigator, and the passenger ship, M/V Zamboanga Ferry. Both ships are now docked at the Dumaguete port.

According to CPO Caluscusin, the SF Navigator incurred damage to its bow and part of the hull after huge waves and strong winds spawned by “Auring” caused it to slam back and forth against one of the finger piers of the Dumaguete port.

The pier to which the SF Navigator was secured was also badly damaged. Luckily, the mooring lines of the cargo vessel did not break off from the cleats to which they were tied.

The SF Navigator has been docked at the Dumaguete port since December 28 to offload cargo, specifically rice sacks of undetermined volume, the Coast Guard said.

It had already offloaded all its cargo but continued to dock at the city port awaiting its next shipment to another destination as it is engaged in the tramp trade, one which does not have a fixed schedule or published ports of call. The SF Navigator, however, continued paying the necessary fees for the duration of its stay at the Dumaguete port.

A visible portion of the SF Navigator’s bow and forward portion of the hull was wrecked, with the MARINA to conduct an investigation and underwater survey for damages, the Coast Guard added.

Meanwhile, a tug boat had towed the M/V Zamboanga Ferry on Friday to the Dumaguete port after it ran aground about 50 meters away from the Rizal Boulevard.

Stormy weather due to Tropical Depression Auring caused the passenger vessel to miss its docking maneuver, with its securing lines disengaged by big waves and strong winds that pushed the passenger ship to a shallow portion of the sea.

The ship grounding resulted in at least five hours of rescue operations to evacuate a total of 228 crew members and passengers from the distressed inter-island vessel. All of the people on board were accounted for, however, one of them died later at a hospital in Dumaguete due to a pre-existing heart condition.

He was identified as Joel Nunez, 33, of Punta Engano, Lapu-lapu City in Cebu.

As of Friday, at least 83 passengers rescued from the Zamboanga Ferry are still stranded at a designated evacuation center at the passenger terminal of the Dumaguete port, awaiting transfer to Cebu.

Provisions and dry clothes are being provided them by the city government and other concerned agencies and the private sector.

Chief Petty Officer Caluscusin said the GP Lines has assured to accommodate them on another inter-island vessel free of charge.

When interviewed, the passengers said they will still have to claim their baggages from the Zamboanga Ferry as soon as it was safely docked at the city port.

Also, the GP Lines has assured to transport the body of the passenger, Joel Nunez, who died at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital hours after he was rescued.

Many of the rescued passengers who are from Dumaguete have already returned to their respective homes.

Still, other passengers, many of them students returning after the holiday break, on Friday also proceeded to the city port to claim their baggages but the Coast Guard advised them to wait until after the ship was safely secured at the pier. (PNA)

Potential cyclone nears VisMin, moderate rain expected
March 20, 2013 6:18pm
http://www.gmanetwork.com/

A potential cyclone moved closer to Mindanao Wednesday afternoon, even as state weather forecasters said rain may fall on parts of the country in the next 24 hours.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the a low-pressure area or potential cyclone was estimated at 475 km east of Hinatuan City as of 4 p.m.

"Eastern Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms. Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have generally good weather except for isolated thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon," it said.

Should the LPA intensify into a cyclone while inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), it will be locally codenamed Dante.

PAGASA also said light to moderate winds blowing from the east to northeast will prevail over Luzon and coming from the northeast over the rest of the country.

"The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate," it said.

Earlier Wednesday, PAGASA forecaster Ricky Fabregas said Metro Manila recorded its highest temperature so far this year at 34.6 degrees Celsius, while Tuguegarao also experienced its hottest temperature at 35.5 degrees. — TJD, GMA News

PAGASA: Flash floods, landslides threaten Mindanao for next 24 hrs
April 9, 2013 10:54pm

Heavy rain that may cause flash floods and landslides will threaten parts of Mindanao for the next 24 hours, state weather forecasters said Tuesday afternoon.

PAGASA, in its 5 p.m. bulletin, also said light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms may occur over the Cagayan Valley and Palawan areas Wednesday.

"Mindanao will have moderate to occasionally heavy rain showers and thunderstorms which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said.

On the other hand, it said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be "partly cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms."

Also, PAGASA said warm weather may remain over other parts of the country as the easterlies or warm winds from the east are affecting the eastern section of the country.

For Wednesday, PAGASA said Metro Manila may expect temperatures between 24 and 35 degrees Celsius, while Tuguegarao City may expect temperatures between 22 and 34 degrees Celsius.

It said the temperature in Metro Manila for Tuesday was highest at 1:50 p.m., at 33.4 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds from the northeast will prevail over extreme northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, it said winds will be light to moderate coming from the east to northeast with slight to moderate seas. — DVM, GMA News

Weather Update: 5:47 PM April 30, 2013

Ang LPA gahapon nga atong gibantajan (LPA 92W) is now better organized as it is targeting central Micronesia.

Some (only a few) of the weather models shows LPA 92W developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 3 to 5 days.

Pero sa forecast sa ijahang dagan, sa may eastern part of the country ra ni sija magpasapidpid. Mag-update ko kung unsay dagan ani ni LPA 92W. Mura ug mahimo jud ning bagjo based on the satellite picture kay organized na kaajo.
