A Regional Trial Court (RTC) judge was ordered suspended of receiving his salary and allowances after he was found out by the Supreme Court to have more than 70 undecided cases.
The High Tribunal, in its order asked the RTC judge to resolve all the pending cases in his sala within three months for the lifting of the suspension order.
An RTC judge told the Chronicle on condition of anonymity that an audit check was conducted by the Supreme Court on the status of cases pending at the 10 RTC courts in the province amid reports of a huge backlog of cases here.
The same source said the beleaguered judge was found by the audit team to have failed to resolve more than 20 criminal cases and 50 civil cases. Aside from the 70 cases, some 20 motions remained in limbo being left unresolved by the same judge.
Following the suspension of the release of the judge's wage and allowances, the cases were reportedly transferred to the sala of Branch 47 Executive Judge Suseso Arcamo. He was designated as the hearing judge starting Nov. 8 this year. Tuesdays and Wednesdays were the designated days to hear the pending cases newly transferred to Arcamo's sala.
Under the Aquino administration, the Supreme Court conducted a nationwide audit to address the clamor for litigants to fast track the disposition of cases. It maybe noted that in several detention centers, there are inmates who are languishing in jail even as their cases remain pending at the various courts. The audit report did not state the reasons on how come some 80 cases could not be resolved by the judge.
