Phivolcs ups alert level over restive Kanlaon volcanoNovember 24, 2015 6:28 pm
The Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) declared alert level 1 over Kanlaon volcano after its eruption Monday night.
A steam explosion occurred at its crater at 9:55 p.m. and lasted for eight minutes, Phivolcs said. The volcano continued to emit ash from the summit Tuesday morning.
“Only four (4) volcanic earthquakes had been recorded during the past week by the Kanlaon Network, but after the explosion, the network recorded volcanic tremor that lasted for five hours,†the agency added.
