It seems Manny Pacquiao is flying to the U.S. after all to attend the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) banquet at the Capitale in New York. Pacquiao originally declined the invitation to bring his wife and three of his four kids for a vacation to Bohol.

But handler Bob Arum was upset and warned him that the American media will never "let him live it down." The BWAA named Pacquiao as Fighter of the Year for 2008, the second time Pacquiao will get the award after being voted in 2006. Arum added that no awardee has ever snobbed the acceptance ceremonies. Pacquiao was on hand when he got the 2006 award at the Copacabana, also in New York.

‘FIGHTER OF THE YEAR’
Pacquiao off to New York to accept award

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines - Filipino boxing icon Manny will leave for New York on Friday to accept the prestigious “Fighter of the Year” award from a group of American sportswriters following two high-profile victories, his adviser said.

“He is receiving the award for the second year in a row,” Michael Konz said in an interview.

Pacquiao recently defeated British Ricky Hatton and Oscar dela Hoya, who retired after their fight.

But before leaving the country, Pacquiao sneaked a private visit to Bohol province with his wife, Jinkee, and their children, Emmanuel Jr., 8; Michael Stephen, 7; and Mary Divine Grace, 2.

Pacquiao was welcomed by the mayor of this city upon his arrival at the wharf here at 11 a.m.

Konz and boxing promoter Wakee Salud were part of Pacquiao’s 25-man entourage.

“This is supposed to be a private trip with his family,” Lim said.

Wearing a light-blue shirt and a white hat, Pacquiao feasted on a meal of crabs, prawns, native fried chicken, squid and lechon (roasted pig) at a lunch hosted by the mayor.

Pacquiao gamely posed with guests and restaurant staff. A small crowd gathered outside.

Pacquiao originally intended to take a break with his family in Panglao Island but had to cut his vacation short because he had to go to New York.

Michael Marley of the New York Boxing Examiner described Pacquiao as a "Reluctant Dragon" in his 8,506-mile trip from Manila to New York.

Marley said it was the "arm-twisting" of aides Salud and Konz that convinced the "Pacman" to travel to New York receive the award.

Marley said promoter Bob Arum was "quite pleased" to hear that Pacquiao cut short his family vacation to join his long-time coach, Freddie Roach, also an awardee.

"Give Manny credit because not many people will fly 14 hours to eat some rubbery chicken," Marley said.

I just seen The Pacman watching a live fight in the states between Cotto and the Clot' he was sitting with his wife Jinke at ringside.

Must be nice to travel at your husbands side to go to America anytime you want when at the same time there are many good Philippine persons who are being denneid a chance to go see familily getting marreid, school purposes, work purposes and at the last minute a wife gets to tag along with her husband.

Oh yes' this couple also owns a house in America must be such a fine priveladge since foreigners are not allowed to buy properties in the Philippines. Ha ha ha ha!!!

I am honest about my feelings.

I do not hide them as I think about everyone as a whole.

I do not think boxxing should buy his way around for his wife to just ride along on his ticket anywhere he goes.

Think of it like this? Does a Filipino Seamans wife travel with him on his ship for his professional career???

The world is not fair, and never will be. If it gives some comfort, we can think that at least we never get hit in the body or the face to earn our three daily meals, never be around so many people trying to get a piece of you.

WOW!!!

Ben nice way of looking at it!!!

He has agreed to fight the champion of that boxing match from last weekend now that is not surprizing is it.

So he cut a trip short to kill two birds with one stone to accept his reward and check out the moves of his next opponent? ha ha ha!!!

He left his three children in Bohol to make this quick trip to New York, where he got a very warm reception from the American fans. Pacquiao's eldest son reportedly called Dad and Mom up to allow them to stay longer in Bohol.

They  must be having a good time with the dolphins and the tarsiers. This is another free endorsement for Bohol, after Claudine, Kris and Gretchen.

As to Pacquiao, this guy sure knows how to maximize his gain in every move.
