PA shooters win big-time in 10-day ARMM shooting meetMANILA, Dec. 7 (PNA) -- Philippine Army (PA) marksmen bagged 23 gold, 14 silver and 26 bronze in the 10-day ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet (AARM) which formally concluded Wednesday.
The event, which started Nov. 28 and ended Dec. 7, was held at Camp O’Donnell, Capas, Tarlac.
Task Force AARM commander Brig. Gen. Herminigildo Francisco C. Aquino said the achievement of the PA shooting contingent is a quantum leap against the ASEAN heavyweights.
“We bagged more gold than expected, always at the top three competing for the the top spot. Always slugging it out with ASEAN’s heavyweights, Indonesia and Thailand. All contenders having a good time competing nonetheless, with mutual respect and friendship," he said.
Around 600 participants from the participating 10 ASEAN states took part in the event.
The competing contingents are from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia.
The AARM is an annual combat shooting competition of ASEAN armies which started in 1991.
The Malaysian Army initially hosted the shooting event.
It's objective is to develop and strengthen the relationship among member Armies from its senior military leaders down to their foot soldiers.
At present, the AARM is divided into five competing events namely pistols for men, pistol for ladies, carbine, rifle, and machine gun. (PNA)
