Magnitude 5.7 quake hits N. Cotabato

MANILA – Another magnitude 5.7 earthquake hit North Cotabato on Monday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs said the epicenter of the earthquake was located 17 kilometers northwest of Carmen town at 4:08 a.m.
The following earthquake intensities were felt:
Intensity VI - Carmen (North Cotabato)
Intensity V - Kabacan (North Cotabato)
Intensity IV - Matalam (North Cotabato)
Intensity III - Kidapawan City; Cagayan de Oro City; Davao City; Pres. Roxas, Arakan, Magpet and Makilala (North Cotabato)
Intensity I - Butuan City
Phivolcs describes Intensity VI as "very strong." Under this category, "some people lose their balance. Motorists feel like driving in flat tires. Heavy objects or furniture move or may be shifted. Small church bells may ring. Wall plaster may crack.
"Very old or poorly built houses and man-made structures are slightly damaged though well-built structures are not affected. Limited rockfalls and rolling boulders occur in hilly to mountainous areas and escarpments. Trees are noticeably shaken."
The quake was tectonic in origin. It had a depth of 3 kilometers.
Phivolcs said aftershocks and damage are expected.
Last Saturday, a similar 5.7-magnitude earthquake shook Carmen, North Cotabato, leaving at least 8 wounded and several houses damaged.
Phivolcs Executive Director Renato Solidum said at least 80 aftershocks have occurred since the quake hit the province.
