LIVING WATER STRATEGY
By Architect Bobby Cericos

To direct a shift away from the ‘social patterns’ still being practiced, reacted and engaged.

    * Instead of ‘politics as usual’ lets engage a shift to eco-wisdom, social responsibility, grassroots democracy, sexual equality and peace. Add to the economic thinking a stand for a decentralized, equitable and flexible system – one which gives boholanos a degree of control over their lives.

    * In a political language, to quote some political  philosophy – a system that is neither left nor right but a decentralized political  system that is in front.

    * Think global but act local

Bohol’s Economy

As a general rule while politicians receive mandates to solve the economic life of a certain constituency, they have been unable to do so except for some fluctuating improvements in a few areas. The reason these leaders – wether conservative, liberal/left or center – cannot find a solution is that they subscribe to narrow perceptions of the problem. These problems are systemic in nature, that is, closely interconnected and interdependent.

Economic experts of whatever school of thought  (monetarist, supply side, and others), generally lack an ecological perspective. This of course considers the fundamental truth of its interconnectedness with us – humans. They define their basic concepts-efficiency, productivity, GNP, and so forth in a narrow way, without considering the social and ecological context. It should be clear by experience and now that unlimited expansion of economic activities in a finite environment can only lead to disaster.

Bohol’s economic policy therefore can be based on three (3) principles: ‘ecology’, ‘social responsibility’, and ‘grassroots democracy’. A fourth principle can be added along the idea that an economy based on those three principles will be ecologically balanced and socially just therefore is nonviolent.

We are for an economic system oriented towards the vital requirements of people and of future generations, towards the preservation of nature and the judicious handling of natural resources. Develop a society in which interpersonal relationships and the relationships between humans and nature become more the subject of conscious consideration, a society where attention to nature’s life cycles, the development and use of technology, and the relationship between production and consumption become the business of all those concerned.

A Bohol economy that develops an approach in which ecology, economy, and social concerns are united is imperative.

* Dealing with water demands a reorientation of policies ‘doing justice to the importance of water as the carrier of life’ water is the most complex and, besides air, the most important substance of life on earth, its quality is the environmental indicator par excellence… Water is not consumed but borrowed – and as such should be returned in their original condition.

An economy along these discipline and beliefs will offer tremendous opportunities for HUMAN CREATIVITY, ENTREPRENEURSHIP, AND INITIATIVE!
