Robredo vows to remain advocate for the poor
By Joann Santiago

MANILA, Dec. 8 (PNA) - Vice President Ma. Leonor Robredo on Thursday stressed her commitment to ensure shelter for the poor even after resigning as Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) chair.

In her closing remarks for the one-day Albert Del Rosario Institute's (ADRI) The Pilipinas Conference in Makati City, the country's second highest leader said she still looked forward "to continue working for housing for the poor as an advocate."

"I will still continue supporting the policies of this administration and the things that we clearly have in common - that is dedication to the poor and the marginalized and an empathy for ordinary Filipino," she said.

Robredo announced her resignation from the Cabinet last Sunday, Dec. 4, after she was informed by Cabinet Secretary Jun Evasco, through SMS, about President Rodrigo R. Duterte's directive for her not to attend Cabinet meetings anymore starting Dec. 5.

She formally tendered her resignation last Monday.

In her speech, the Vice President said poverty and equality remain high "and "have been our country's bed fellows for far too long."

"Now more than ever we need to focus on our job at hand and deepen our sense of service," she said.

She stressed that there is a reason why people have been placed in a certain place and time.

"There must be a reason why we are here. There must be a reason why I am here.We hope that every one of us rise to the challenge, always keeping in mind the last, the least and the lost," she added. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
