With the onset of the rainy season and the completion of the rapid geo-hazard assessment, the Region 7 office of the Mines and Geo-sciences Bureau (MGB) bared that seven barangays in this town and two in Bayawan City have been given high landslide proximity due to the presence of unstable slopes in the said areas.
MGB7 Regional Director Loreto Alburo said that for the province of Negros Oriental, the town of Valencia, which is a first class municipality located 9.4 kilometers west of Dumaguete City, has seven barangays that are identified to be highly susceptible to landslide.
“These barangays are Balili, Caidiocan, Cambucad,Malaunay, Palinpinon,Puhagan and Pulangbato,†said Alburo.
In Bayawan City, a coastal city within the province of Negros Orienta, the two barangays with high susceptibility to landslide are Kalumbuyan and San Miguel.
Moreover, for the province of Bohol, Alburo disclosed that the municipalities of Guindulman, Deuro and Jagna were categorized as risky areas where the occurrence of landslide is concerned.
