CEBU CITY, Philippines -- A security guard was killed when at least three robbers held up the Bank of Commerce in Tagbilaran City around noon Tuesday, police said.

Police Officer 2 Edmund Pillerin said Remegio Cañizar, 38 died in a shootout with the robbers.

Chief Inspector Jacinto Cesar, Tagbilaran City police chief, said one of the suspects, identified only as a certain Gomez, was captured after he was wounded in the gunfight.

But the other suspects fled with a still undetermined amount of cash.

Cesar said the robbers could be part of the Garcia robbery gang.

Is there still hope for our beloved Bohol?

It's getting worse. Non-stop robbery and murder! What is this?

there was a joke before that during the series of robbery in the town of sevilla, everybody prepared "nagtagana" at least Php500.00 for the robbers. basin kuno og tulison sila then mabalita nga way nakuha kay way kwarta, at least daw naa. it was not a nice joke but the thing is, it really had happened continuously and wa juy nadakpan.

Mike,

I am a pure Tagbilaranon - conceived, born, raised, educated, married, employed here...

Since birth, I have spent 37 "colorful" years in this city...

I am lamenting because I feel so much for Tagbilaran, the city that I love...

I know there are problems, but I can't do anything to solve it...I am deeply saddened...if only...

Fiel, you've done a lot for Bohol and Tagbilaran.

Do you plan to relocate to Siquijor where your husband is?

I understand the fears of all Bol-anons who are presently residing outside- It is a strange feeling knowing the sudden changes of Tagbilaran faces... but if we will be coward
enough by way of having a vacation strike, it will not anyway solve the problem. Fear is not the weapon
against this but instead show to these criminals no one can defeat the strong belief of the Bol-anons to
find a solution. Back to our paralized government....it is time for them to awake! Are the lives of their
co-Bol-anons already worthless?  Where are their "KONSENSYA"?

But fear we should not be.
Fear not solve crime. But fighting back will.

So, fight back we will!

We are living in fear…. Is this the demise of peace, freedom & liberty in our beloved Bohol?

Should we sacrifice our Christian values and organize a death squad? Personally, I am not in favor of a death squad as it might be abused by politicians to keep themselves in power. It may become an ironic “erosion of liberties in the name of protecting people from terror”. But in such desperate situation, we have to grab the first weapon we could see “the death squad”. You are right Mike in saying desperate situation requires desperate solution.

However, we must not be deceived by few serial incidents to keep a death squad forever. Moreover, timan-i ninyo, daghan dayon mo sakay ani nga mga politicians.

Quoted from Frank Furedi – University of Kent
“The term “politics of fear” contains the implication that politicians self-consciously manipulate people’s anxieties in order to realise their objectives. There is little doubt that they do regard fear as an important resource for gaining a hearing for their message. Scare tactics can sometimes work to undermine opponents and to gain the acquiescence of the electorate. However, the politics of fear is not simply about the manipulation of public opinion. The political class is itself anxious and disoriented. In the present circumstances, even professional political operators who are in the business of promoting fear are themselves habitually overwhelmed by it.

The politics of fear is a manipulative project that aims to immobilise public dissent. But it is also the mantra with which a disconnected elite responds in the circumstances of its isolation.

What the “politics of fear” really expresses is the renunciation of politics. Unlike the politics of fear pursued by authoritarian regimes and dictatorships, it has no clearly focused objective.”

Guard killed in Tagbilaran bank heist!

A security guard was killed when at least three robbers held up the Bank of Commerce in Tagbilaran City around noon Tuesday, police said.  Remegio Cañizar, 38 died in a shootout with the robbers.

Nan, karon Mga Sano Ug Sana ... naa ba intawon tay matabang sa namatay nga guard?  Intawon pod ug gagmay pa ang anak sa namatay?  Will it be possible to maybe raise money gikan dinhe sa Tubag Bohol for the family of the late guard?

Pananglitan may mohatag ug gamay nga amount, kinsa bay maka facilitate nga makaabot intawon ang kuarta sa pamilya ng pobreng guardia nga namatay?

Come on!  Let's do something ... BESIDES always moaning about how our beloved BOHOL's peaceful situation had drastically deteriorated of late!!!

Some kind of Trust fund or Scholarship fund for the late guard's kids kon duna man galing to siya mga anak? ... o tabang ba kaha sa mga ginikanan nga nag-ugod ugod na tingali?

Paypal is already available in the Philippines, I have heard ... Mike, can we be able to send money to you, for you to forward to the said late guard's family?  Or kang Inday Fiel na lang kaha i-c/o?  Or can anyone find out the late guard's exact address aron makapamalihug ko paadto ...

OK from home base, we humbly start the ball rolling.

I commit to donate P500 of my barangay allowance for the proposed scholarship fund for the kids
of the late SG Remegio Canizar from Cabantian, Guindulman.

In the meantime, I will have my donation coursed thru Mrs. Gabin (as suggested) until such time the
mechanics of the fund is finalized.

Ate Belle,

Thank you for your kind heart. We'll devise a plan how to deliver our donation.
I have Paypal but I haven't tried using it. Besides, I'm in Thailand. I will consult with
other members of Tubag Bohol on how we can send our donation as one group.

Mike,

May I suggest that for all the kindhearted who desires to help the family of the late
SG Remegio Canizar and intends to make a financial donation shall opt either the ff:

a) RP based TB...Members to remit it direct to an account established in Bohol
c/o Ms. Gabin (as suggested).

b) Outside RP based TB...Members to course their donations thru the Tubag Bohol
administrator and for him to forward the pot to the (to be established) fund
incharge based here in Tagbilaran.

Any amendments to the proposal?

Cap,

I have a PayPal account. Donors can transfer funds to this PayPal account and I will forward the total donation to the Philippines.

There are Metrobank branches outside the country. Funds can be deposited directly to Ms. Gabin's Metrobank account.

Hello everyone at Tubag Bohol!

I must say I am honored for the trust - it means so much to me - but hadlok ko anang butanga. I am a government employee, so mahadlok ko ma-question why I will be the one to receive the donation for the fallen security guard, although it is for a good intention.

For my part, after reading your messages here, I called the Bank of Commerce and spoke with the manager, Mr. Alfeo Ligason (038-411-5400), who was so thankful for your intention to giving something for the family of the late REMIGIO SARAGOZA CAÑIZAR, originally from Guindulman, but now residing with his family at Habitat Village, Bool District, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

I asked Mr. Ligason if it was possible for me to open a bank account for Tubag Bohol then care: Fiel Angeli E. Araoarao-Gabin for the purpose of accepting or facilitating the donation. However, he explained that if it is the group that will open the account, the bank officials will have to ask for other documents or requirements and it will take time.

He suggested instead that he can allow me to open a PESO SAVINGS ACCOUNT without any initial deposit for the abovementioned purpose but using my name.

I then asked him for the cellphone number of the late security guard's wife, but since he doesn't have it, he gave me the phone number of Holy Name Funeral Homes (038-411-3221). When I called for the wife, she was out, so I talked with NECRIS IVY CAÑIZAR-FUENTES, sister of the victim (security guard), who gave me the following information:

Name of the victim's wife: CANDIDA BALUCAN CAÑIZAR from Loay, Bohol
Address: Habitat Village, Bool District, Tagbilaran City,  Bohol
Occupation: Homemaker / Plain housewife
Contact number: (0921) 4320210
Number of children: 4
Names of children:

- Charmaine Ann, 15 YO, 3rd year high school student,Holy Trinity School, Loay (living with
   the grandparents in Loay)
- John Ryan, deaf-mute, Special Education student, Tagbilaran City Central Elementary
   School
- Neil Louie, 12 YO, Grade 6 pupil, Tagbilaran City Central Elementary School
- Sheila Mae, 8 YO, Grade 2 pupil, Tagbilaran City Central Elementary School

I think it would be best to contact Mrs. Caridad Cañizar who may have a bank account number, so you can just send the money DIRECTLY to her account. Let me tell you, guys, lisod na kaayo'g maisyuhan ko. I will really want to help out, but I am really very careful on this matter. Basin unya'g some people might say misulod ko sa eksena, although I would just want to help... kuyaw diri sa Bohol... (there's too much "crab mentality," "politicking," "show business," hypocrisy, etc...)

Whatever transpires after your talk with the wife, please let me know, so I can also give updates to the bank manager, as promised.

I hope this helps... for now...

Sincerely,

Fiel

Fiel,

Thank you for your efforts in getting this info. We'll do our best so we can send donation to the family of the slain guard.

Again, thank you, Fiel. I understand your situation. I know how it feels when you are in government fence.

Dear Fiel,

I look forward to knowing the bank details of the security guard’s wife.

Moreover, since I am one of the BOD in a Boholano Cooperative in KSA (BOWACCC), I will try to solicit some amount from our group and from some Boholanos that I knew. It is part of our cooperative’s policy to interact and involve itself for the good of the community. Last time, BOWACCC donated some amount taken from our education fund, to the victims of the Casava Poisoning in Mabini last 2005 if I’m not mistaken. I think it was our very own “Mike Ligalig” who made the write-up of that report to the Bohol Chronicle. I will bring this matter to Mr. Jun Ayag being our Vice-Chairman of BOWACCC and member of Tubag Bohol community. Fiel, akong sultihan pod si Re-an Monton Real (Imong Kumare ug ako pong kumare) to spread the word, they have their own group also of Boholanos.

Such heroic act from the slain Security Guard must be recognized / honored by any means. All of us are affected by this crisis and all of us are potential victims of such heinous act. I have children of such age and I can imagine how painful it is for the kids to loose a father and a breadwinner of the family.

At that very moment, he did not only brings honor to his family but he protects all of us (potential victims). He is our hero.

How about members from USA,     Anyone? How about “Unic”.

Hope everyone will share a portion of his/her heart to the Kids of the Security Guard.

Note to Mike: Appreciate if somebody could post the picture of the Security Guard and his Kids as I am planning to make a poster and a cover for the donation can. A picture could help draw affection than only words. Mike I am targeting their weakest point "emotion".

I am trying to understand. Are you saying that some in the police knew what was going on with the robberies and did not do anything?
YES THEY KNOW, IN FACT, THE AUTHORITIES ALREADY INFORMED SOME OF THE BANK MANAGERS THAT THERE WILL BE A ROBBERY 2 DAYS BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. SO, WHAT DU THINK? NGANONG WA MAN NILA DAKPI DAAN ANG MGA TULISAN, BEFORE THEY COULD LAUNCH THE ROBBERY. ARON DILI N UNTA MAPUSILAN ANG INTAWNG GUARDYA.

I have a PayPal account. Donors can transfer funds to this PayPal account and I will forward the total donation to the Philippines.

Dong Mike!  Unsa man ang imong Paypal Email nga mapadad-an sa hinabang? Paypal because it will not cost anything on the part of the donors to send the money ...

Besides ... kon ija-ija, aho-aho ang style in sending the monies ... the impact would not be as greatly felt ... tingali ...

Palihug na lang ko ug post pod, which email address to send the money?

My main concern is the kids' continued education, as much as possible.  The bank might take care of the immediate burial needs, you see!  It is the after-the-funeral scenario I am worried about ... plain housewife ra ba ang widow ...

I'm sorry but this reasoning is wrong and should be corrected:

First, who sent the text message warning? Did the texter identify himself/herself? If he/she did, then we can blame the police for not acting and extract more information from him/her. But if not, it is not fair to besmirch further the reputation of the PNP.

Second, granting it was the police who informed the banks on the text tip they received, they can only do so much -- to warn -- because they have no information at that time who will carry out the robbery. This does not mean the PNP was remiss of their duties.

Third, knowing that a robbery will happen does not necessarily follow the police knows who will do it, or where the robbers were at the moment, or which bank is the target.

Te Belle, I suggest you send it directly to the Philippines. Though I have a Paypal account, I would still have to transfer the money to the Philippines and this will be costly (read: Western Union).

Fiel has declined to handle this matter. We're scouting for a volunteer who is willing to handle the donated funds.

Yeah, just like what Franklin said, stop peddling gossips or intrigues and tell us facts.

So you know who are the drug pushers in Tagbilaran. Then do your civic duty and report it to the proper authorities. If you don't trust the authorities, report it to Mr. Administrator.

Whether or not I'm a cop, it does not erase the fact that your logic is flawed. Ha ha.

I have past exsperience with being a foriegn founder of helping the local reservist camp build it headquarters here in dao district this city.
I am an American residing here in Tagbilaran I would be willing to let persons depost into my account as I can acess my account over the phone and via ATM machine here.
I am a very real and honest person but as fiel mentioned earlier there are persons out there that would cause problems just for some one to help out.
Well you know mentality here is often not so keen and I do understand what she is referring to as crab mentality from her fellow Philippine persons here.
Its even hard to do nice gestures anymore do to the bad thinking of other's.
Fiel or I would be trustworthy as we are very much into doing things that are healthy to the community, and we are sweet friends towards one another.
My bank is Bank of America. It would be hard unless some one could work something out with western union for the wife?
Why was the guard at UNTOP not treated in the same way when he was killed? Did he ot have a family also?

These past few weeks, though, ning-linaw-linaw na man pud gamay.  Let's pray that such crimes don't break out again in Bohol.  (Although it should be noted that the number of unsolved crimes is still somewhat high.)  Poverty is often made a reason for committing crimes but let's not come to a point where we accept it as a justification.

Sigbin, it is human greed not poverty. They are a bunch of cowards, afraid to face life's reality. They want the short-cut method and afraid to endure hardship. They are mentally lazy.

Like the Emperor of the dark side, I know they will strike back. I can feel thier anger.
