Dr. Franz Seidenschwarz, the newly appointed honorary consul there, said more German visitors and investors are coming into Cebu.

Many German companies are selecting Cebu as their place of operation. In fact, the greatest German employer in the Philippines, Dedon, is located here in Metro Cebu providing jobs for the Cebuanos,” he added in his e-mail to INQUIRER.net.

Seidenschwarz said a German honorary consulate was also established in Cebu in 1871.

“I am very proud that we have the president and CEO of this very same company with us, Mr. Klaus Schröder…Nowadays, we experience a second and much bigger wave of rapid economic development. The modern and high tech economic development is carried by call centers and export businesses, etc.,” Seidenschwarz said.

“It is in these times that a German representation becomes a vital component,” he added.

Others who attended the opening of the consulate on April 29 were: German Ambassador to the Philippines Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortsch; Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia; Cebu City Vice-Mayor Michael Rama; Roberto E. Aboitiz, Knight of the Order of Orange Nassau and Honorary Consul of the Netherlands; Phil Inquirer
