The death toll in the New People's Army-instigated ambush on Philippine Army soldiers in Sitio Cinco, Barangay Mapula, Paquibato District, Davao City Sunday afternoon climbed to four after another trooper earlier reported captured by the rebels was found dead on Monday.
Lt. Col. Lyndon Paniza, 10th Infantry Division spokesperson, said the slain troopers were all assigned to the 60th Infantry Battalion's Peace and Development Team.
The four soldiers, who were on civilian attire and unarmed, were aboard three motorcycles when they were attacked by 10 NPA fighters at around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
Paniza identified the initial three fatalities as Private First Class Ahian Vir Dolero, Pfc. Marvin Lauronal and Pfc. Noel Sigan, whose remains are now in Villa Funeral Homes in Panabo City.
Private Marcelo Himaya, who was earlier reported captured by the rebels, was found dead in a nearby area and believed to be summarily executed.
