A long-wanted drug dealer captured by police last week claimed that there are several policemen, allegedly, involved in the drug trade – either as a protector or supplier.
Officials of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in the province vehemently denied the accusation, saying they have no knowledge of fellow law enforcers engaged in the illegal drug trade.
Days after his arrest, suspected big-time drug dealer Lynn Bas, alias Lennox Bas, 31, accused police officers of cuddling drug dealers which is why the drug menace in the province continues to proliferate despite a number of arrests.
Bas fell into a police dragnet in barangay Mansasa, this city, with a sizable volume of suspected ‘shabu’ (methamphetamine hydrochloride).
The disclosure gained steam after retired policewoman, now barangay Dampas Kagawad Aida Barafon also said in an interview over dyRD “Inyong Alagad†that another arrested drug pusher confided to her that a policeman is pressuring him to sell shabu despite his intent to quit.
The shabu being allegedly supplied by the policeman to the said pusher came from seized drugs of arrested pushers. According to Barafon, the said policeman purportedly belonged to a special unit of the PNP based here in the city.
Barafon indicated a “recycling†of confiscated illegal substances could be possible as arrested drug pushers try to enter into secret deals with arresting officers – by not declaring the entire volume of the seized substance and consequently settling for a lower offense and penalty.
