Smart, Globe subscribers can now donate via SMS

Philstar.com - Wednesday, September 30SendIM StoryPrint.MANILA, Philippines – Smart Communications Inc. and Globe Telecom, the country's two major telecommunication companies, are now helping facilitate donations for victims of typhoon “Ondoy” via short messaging system (SMS).

The donations will be handed over to the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC), which has teamed up with both telecom companies in disaster-preparedness and response.

For smart subscribers who wish to donate to the PNRC, text REDAMOUNT (e.g. RED25) to 4483. Globe users, on the other hand, can give pledges by typing RED (e.g. RED 25) and sending the message to 2899. Transactions are free of charge.

Denominations of P10, P25, P50 and P100 are currently accepted from Smart users, while Globe subscribers can donate P5, P25, P50, P100 and P300. Only the donated amount will be deducted from the subscriber's credit. - By Dino Maragay (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)
