The Bohol Chronicle

Boholanos are alarmed as the province topped in Central Visayas in the incidence of dog bites and in deaths caused by rabies.

The region itself consistently ranks in the top 5 nationwide, confirmed Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Liza Lapiz on Thursday during this month's edition of "Alarma", a monthly forum of the Bohol Tri-Media Association which was hosted by Dao Diamond Bed and Breakfast.

In 2007, there were 2,669 cases of dog bites with 10 deaths.

This, despite a provincial ordinance adopted last year for the mandatory registration and vaccination of dogs.

Provincial legal officer Atty. Handel Lagunay during the same forum said corresponding municipal ordinances have also been adopted since 2007 when the high number of dog bite cases alarmed health authorities here.

According to Lapiz, a campaign educating dog owners of responsible pet ownership and seizing stray dogs still needs the support of local government units.

The provincial veterinarian attributes the high incidence of dog bites to the unabated breeding of canines and irresponsible pet owners.

I was at this forum last week. I was impressed at some of the rules for handling these dogs that do bite humans.
I know back home in my county dogs are immediatley euthenized put to sleep by the humaen soceity because once a dog bites it is considered ruined already.

Anyways Bohol untill now has many dirty stray dogs out on the prowl looking for a roll around with another dog and this forces the dog population to even become a larger problem.

It stated in the rabies leaflet that it is maybe alright to kill the dog after 14 days if proven that he is tested positive for rabies.

some symptoms of rabies are such as dogs hiding under thing, his change in diet. His growling.
there are other symptoms as well.

Those are the basic ones for now to remember.
