Dictatorship in Tagbilaran Denounced by 3 Ex city mayors
« on: April 17, 2010, 11:10:09 AM »
By Bohol Chronicle

All the three surviving former city mayors who used to run the affairs of the city were unanimous in denouncing the actuation of Mayor Dan Lim in indiscriminately disconnecting the power services at two residences owned by a broadcaster and a radio technician.

"I have never encountered such kind of action ever since I was in government service," declared former Mayor Jose Ma. Rocha reacting to the indiscriminate action of Lim.

The act was "unjust," while asking Lim to define what he means by "conflict of interest."

Mayor Rocha who used to have Lim as his city administrator said the mayor is the "type of person who does not listen to advice."

For his part, former Gov. Rolando Butalid who also served as city mayor commented the act as "demeaning to the citizens of Tagbilaran, as he was acting like a dictator."

"He over stepped the bounds of prudence and good manners and right conduct," Butalid said in an interview yesterday.

He advised Lim to be the "mirror of the city's personality which is gentle, of good breeding, respectful and religious."

Butalid advised Lim to stop using "abusive language and actions which the mayor gets criticisms from the public."

"I am just worried on how the city is being governed now under a reign of dictatorship," according to former Mayor Joe Torralba.

"This is the first time that such an act was committed by a mayor just because he wants to silence his critics," Torralba commented saying that in his 15 years as mayor, he never harassed people, nor the media who would criticize him.

"Since we live in a democratic country, then people have the right to express their criticisms," Torralba stressed.

The former mayor described the present situation as never been experienced in a peaceful city like Tagbilaran where respect reigns for differing opinions in every home.

He said not a single former city mayor has been doing these questionable actuations since the time of the late Mayor Venancio Inting, the first mayor when Tagbilaran became a city in 1966, until his time as city mayor."

Torralba noted that the city is "under siege" considering the influence peddling done by the mayor in the judiciary as shown in the inhibition of city judges of cases against the city mayor and the control of the city police since raids on swertres, drugs and human trafficking have to be conducted by operatives from Cebu due to the alleged protection racket by a top city hall official.

"Sobra na," Torralba concluded.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
