City Mayor Dan Lim demanded that City Hall employees alleged to be involved in the padding of Blue Card claims be identified.
The mayor’s challenge came after accusations were made by a Medical Mission Group Hospital and Health Services Cooperative (Coop Hospital) official that there is
connivance among the hospital’s staff and certain city government employees to overstate the hospitalization claims. The hospital official revealed that padding of claims happened several times.
Lim created last week a task force to investigate into the supposed involvement of city employees.
The task force, headed by the mayor’s executive assistant Mark Leo Monton, was given five days to release results of its findings.
Members of the task force include Kag. Edi Borja as chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on health, Kag. Oscar Glovasa, city budget officer Rose Palma.
During its meeting last Thursday, Monton said the investigating team will particularly look into the alleged collusion by City Hall staff to overstate claims.
All Coop hospitalization billings charged against the Blue Card will be examined whether the patients were really confined at the hospital, the type of illness and the medical intervention.
Since Blue Card accreditation was given to Coop Hospital, there were already a total of 190 patients at the Coop Hospital that were purportedly Blue Card beneficiaries.
Claims from these beneficiaries amounted to over P2-million, according to Monton.
For its part, the Coop Hospital is filing charges against six employees who were found to have participated in claims padding.
According to Coop Hospital’s legal counsel Atty. Eliseo Labaria, they are suing these employees in order to be officially dismissed.
