Malacanang condemned on Friday the shooting rampage in Kawit, Cavite that killed nine people and injured 11 others noting that the carnage will certainly fuel the government’s relentless efforts to clamp down on loose firearms.

A suspected drug addict went on a shooting rampage in Cavite Friday morning attacking his neighbors with a .45-caliber pistol.

The incident happened in Barangay Tabon 1 in Kawit, Cavite, at around 9:30 a.m. The suspect, who traded shots with responding policemen, was shot to death by the authorities at around 11 a.m.

In a briefing at Malacanang on Friday, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said the Palace is condemning the attack considering that some of the casualties are children and given the large number of deaths.

“As of the moment, what we can say is that this incident will certainly fuel the efforts of the PNP into its drive against loose firearms,” she said.

Ronald Bae, the suspect, entered several houses and shoot everyone inside including children, according to witnesses. The police also found sachets containing suspected drugs inside the slain suspect’s house.

Witnesses also said Bae was assisted by a certain John Paul in the rampage. They said John Paul helped Bae reload his pistol.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

UPDATE:

10 dead in Cavite shooting rampage

MANILA, Philippines (4th UPDATE) – At least 10 people were killed and 10 others injured after a suspected drug addict went on a shooting rampage in Kawit, Cavite Friday morning.

Police said the suspect, identified as Ronald Bae, shot his neighbors in Barangay Tabon 1 at around 9:30 a.m. using a .45-caliber pistol.

He was shot dead by responding policemen at around 11 a.m.

The other fatalities were Abet Fernandez, the first person to be shot; Boyet Toledo, a tricycle driver; Rhea De Vera, a pregnant woman; Michaela Caimol, a 7-year-old girl; Irene Funelas, a fruit vendor; a certain Adoracion Cabrera; and three still unnamed victims.

The 10 injured victims, meanwhile, were mostly children. One of them was De Vera's child. De Vera and her child were inside a bathroom when they were shot by Bae.

In an earlier interview with dzMM, Kawit Councilor Gerry Jarin said Bae had been drinking since Thursday evening.

"Pinasok niya (Bae) ang mga bahay, pinuntahan niya, pilit niyang pinapasok at pinagbabaril ang mga tao," Jarin said.

Caimol was shot in the chest while her siblings, 3-year-old KC and 2-year-old Rachel, were wounded. KC was the suspect's goddaughter.

Investigators found sachets containing suspected drugs inside the slain suspect's house.

They also found out that Bae was assisted by a certain John Paul in the rampage. They said John Paul helped Bae in reloading his pistol.

Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla has raised P100,000 for the immediate arrest of Bae's alleged accomplice.

Remulla said there were reports that Bae, who lost his electoral bid in Kawit in the 2010 elections, had marital problems. Neighbors said Bae had only returned to Kawit from his residence in Pampanga just two days ago.

Today's shooting is the latest incident to grip the nation following the stray bullet death of 7-year-old Stephanie Ella in Caloocan City.

The shooting has triggered concerned citizens and officials to call for stricter enforcement of gun control laws. – reports from Eric Dastas and Noel Alamar, dzMM
