Carnappers targetting vehicles of TNVS drivers
« on: October 30, 2017, 11:33:22 AM »
STATEMENT BY THE HONORABLE NEIL J. ABAYON, AANGAT TAYO Party-list
Assistant Minority Leader
REP. ABAYON PROPOSES COLOR-CODED DISTRESS ALERTS FOR TNVS DRIVERS

There must be some discreet and easy way for Transport Network Vehichle Service (TNVS) drivers to send out distress signals: Red alert for carnapping, robbery, and other life-threatening situations; Blue alert for medical emergencies; and Orange alert for trip-aborting road mishaps. Distress alerts must have exact locations of the TNVS units and other needed information.

The details on how the distress signals will be operationalized are up to Transport Network Companies (TNCs) like Grab and Uber and should not be revealed to the public for security reasons. We must always be a step ahead of criminals.

TNCs must also have matching rapid response protocols for immediate notification and deployment of the police and emergency responders.

TNCs must swiftly implement all these because lives are at stake.

Carnappers targetting vehicles of TNVS drivers would not hesitate to use deadly force. The October 27 fatal execution-style shooting of Grab driver Gerardo Amolato Maquidato, Jr is clear proof of this.  Grab and other TNCs must prioritize the implementation of security protocols to keep their drivers and passengers safe.

Grab itself has revealed that six of its TNVS drivers have fallen victim to carnappers.

Some weeks ago, I had urged Uber, Grab, and other TNCs to upgrade their booking apps with emergency silent alarms. I also proposed e-microinsurance for passengers for every trip that they book.  (END)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
