The Bohol Chronicle The province is considered as one of the dumping areas of carnapped vehicles as authorities from Cebu-based regional offices of the Traffic Management Group (TMG) seized at least eight vehicles during operations conducted here last week.
More than 20 hot cars were reportedly sold here by dealers believed to be members of a nationwide syndicate engaged in carnapping, according to P/Senior Inspector Eduardo Mara who coordinated the operations.
The TMG Cebu team led by P/Insp. Doroteo Tolentino, TMG regional chief, seized four Mitsubishi Adventure, two Nissan Urvan, Isuzu Crosswind and Starex mini van, four of which were immediately shipped to the Cebu TMG offices while four other units are still at Camp Dagohoy awaiting budget for shipment to Cebu City.
The Starex, owned by City Planning Officer Ed Macalandag was reportedly carnapped in Dilliman, Quezon City in 2002. He bought the car from a local businessman who also acquired it from one of the city-based dealers of second hand vehicles.
One of the Mitsubishi Aventure was allegedly owned by UCPB Cagayan de Oro branch but was carnapped in Davao City. The unit was bought for P400,000 by a retired employee of the provincial government.
Accordingly, the owner knew of having purchased a hot car but ignored the warning until his AUV was flogged down by the TMG team
