By Bohol Chronicle

Police declared an intensified campaign against robberies which escalated during the past few days in the various towns of the province.

PNP Prov'l Director Constantino Barot, Jr. called to an early morning emergency meeting last Tuesday station commanders from 10 town which PNP considers as critical areas in terms of robbery incidents.

These are the towns of Loon, Buenavista, Catigbian, Tubigon, Danao, Panlao, Loboc, Sagbayan, Triidad and Talibon.

He urged the station commanders to disseminate to the public their hotline numbers so information on the presence of suspicious looking persons can be relayed immediately to the police.

For the provincial PNP command, the hotline numbers are: 0912-8089279 (Smart), 0917-3051833 (Globe), while for the Phil. Army its 0908-2682695

He gave the station commanders marching orders to focus on unsolved robberies while intelligence network should be beefed up

LATEST INCIDENTS

Businessman Juan Tabada of Trinidad town was gunned down last Thursday after he tried to resist hold-uppers who flogged down his motorcycle at around 7pm .

Two unidentified suspects waylaid him, poked a gun at him and declared hold-up. When Tabada resisted, the suspect shot him. The robbers carted away P120,000 cash. The suspects immediately fled towards the town of San Miguel, using the victim's motorcycle as their get-away vehicle.

The police earlier recorded an incident of theft in barangay Tawala in the town of Panglao wherein the victim was an American national.

The victims Michael John Puz and lawyer Lisle Wadingan, discovered that there rented room at Sun Apartelle Resort in Tawala, Panglao was ransacked by unidentified suspects.

The suspects took away their laptop, cellphone and jewelries.
Police suspects an inside job as latent prints left by the suspect came from the main entrance with no sign of forced entry.

The other major crime that Barot reported during the PPOC meeting was the incident of attempted rape victimizing a British national, Michelle Mooskyj at around 3 p.m. of August 25.

The victim first met the suspect, Junder Anuever, on August 14, so she had no doubts when he offered her a ride (motorcycle) to Bohol Plaza Resort where she was billeted.

Meanwhile, Absalona Betinol 28, married of Poblacion Centro, Clarin town was robbed by two unknown suspects armed with short firearm. On motorbike from Bato, Buenavista town, the Betinol was accosted and held at gunpoint while robbers took P12,000 cash, gold necklace and cellphone. The suspects fled towards Baluarte, Buenavista town

Police said Camaso lost P12,000 in cash to two masked robbers somewhere at barangay bacani, Clarin town. The motor-riding suspects fled towards Catigbian town.

The most recent shooting incident was reported in Ubay town the other where Alberto Boyles, 68 of San Francisco was shot while his wife, Maria, 61 was hit in her left leg. The couple was asleep in their hut around 11 p.m. last Thursday when awakened by the unknown assailant.

Police said, the suspect barged iand accosted the 68-year old victim and was ordered to kneel but the victim refused due to old age. The suspect shot the victim at close range using a .45 caliber pistol.

The old Boyles was hit in the chest and was declared on arrival at a hospital, while the wife was rushed to a city hospital. Police recovered a .45 caliber empty shell at the crime scene.

MONITOR EVEN
W/OUT TERRORISTS

Despite the absence of terrorists, the new PNP director said the police are "not taking chances, and continued to constantly monitor suspicious activities."

"The declaration that the province of Bohol is insurgent-free does not guarantee that Bohol is totally insulated. The threat of the communist terrorists' return to Bohol can be effectively addressed through collaborative involvement of the local government unit-led Bohol Local Integrated Security System (BLISS)," Barot said.

He solicited for the "collaborative efforts of all stakeholders" for the province to remain "a safe place to live, work, invest and do business in".

Barot also dismissed the unconfirmed reports on movement of the Special Partisan Unit (SPARU) of the New People's Army within the province, saying the police still have to confirm the information.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

The police provincial director also reported that during the period, August 11-September 20, police have arrested 12 persons in the seven anti-illegal drugs operations which resulted to the filing of seven cases in court.

Other prohibited acts during this period are alteration of territory of a precinct or establishment of a new precinct as provided in Section 5 of Republic Act 8189; illegal release of prisoners; organizing or maintaining reaction or strike forces or similar forces, transfer and detail of officers and employees in the civil service, including public school teachers; suspension of any elective provincial, city, municipal or barangay officer; and use of security personnel or bodyguards by candidates whether or not such bodyguards are regular members of officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP) or the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) or other government law enforcement agency.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

When it comes to foreigner news I am usually one of the first to know about things....

I am shocked to learn the latest regarding another foreign national being shot and killed....???

how truly sad and sick it is becoming here....i mean as far as being concerned for foreigners here.

Heaven forbid we are either robbed, raped or killed these days.....here in Bohol..... on a day to day and weekly basis...

I have two friends wanting to move to Philippines i told them bad ideal....
I myself cannot help to be vigilant.

Then again i blend in on a daily thing with natives here....I am not seen in tourist places....I havge sort of become an icon here.....LOL!!!

My opinion as a foreigner living a long time in Bohol.

I think I can say I have more better times then sad times here.

I often will pass by a stranger in the street and say hello with a smile.....it also brings back smiles in return and sometimes looks of surprise!

I am well aware of foreigner men coming here to pick up ladies for a night or two paying around 400 or more just to have a companion sit with him for even a dinner.

Often I know of foreign men who get what they want more then three times a day with three different ladies. I am not proud of that in any way in fact I am easily embarrassed and it makes foreigners look bad when being spoken about in general here.

I also know foreigners who have been in long time relationships with women from here who are really nice....

Most often if someone is going to be shot they have normally been under surveillance by the one who will have the killing done just so they know when to shoot at the right time and the right place.

I will try to find my notes on a power-point presentation that was shared with the media recently in a self defense seminar for media with SPO3 Carnarco from Camp Dagohoy.

I think it would be a nice ideal to share that in here so people will always be vigilant on everything happening around them.....

Maybe lives could be saved once after I have posted some helpful tips on knowing when your being under surveillance.

......Crime busters....... 8)

hopefully bohol will not be perceived as haven of thugs and hoodlums prying on local and foreign tourists. that would be bad for the tourism of the province.
