The provincial government voluntarily assured to assist in sourcing out funds for the much-needed wastewater treatment facility at the drainage outfall going to the Tagbilaran Bay.
Gov. Erico Aumentado made the assurance last Friday during his weekly radio program, "The Governor Reports" as the public clamored that water to be released from the drainage outfall be free from household and commercial wastes.
For his part, City Mayor Dan Lim repeatedly claims that the city is constructing its wastewater treatment plant somewhere near Graham Avenue, this city. However, until this time, no work has started when checked by the Chronicle despite the start of the rainy season.
An estimate made by Pacific Consultants Inc. (PCI) showed that a water treatment plant that could hold the volume of water coming from the city's drainage network is pegged at P80-million, according to Aumentado.
PCI is the consultant of the Bohol Circumferential Road Improvement Project contracted by Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC).
The governor said that a project as expensive and environmentally critical as a wastewater treatment plant should be established immediately.
According to Aumentado, although the city government has not asked for fund assistance, the governor said the provincial government is willing to put up a counterpart just to ensure a water treatment facility is built.
The governor, however, did not give a specific amount.
