Recognition continues to pour in for the province as it garners yet another regional award in the Gawad Pamana ng Lahi of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

DILG Provincial Director Louisella Lucino revealed the news Thursday during the 183rd Sumad celebration of the municipality of Balilihan.

An award for exemplary performance in local governance, the Gawad Pamana ng Lahi is conferred to a province, city, or municipality based on the Local Governance Performance Management System, the Seal of Good Housekeeping, national agency-bestowed awards, and other acknowledged innovations.

This year, the Bohol Provincial Government is accorded the honor for responsible governance, sharing with the national government the objectives of advancing economic prosperity, social well-being, and environmental integrity.

The DILG also recognizes the province's efforts in upholding the principles of performance, accountability, transparency, and inclusivity in local administration and development, consistent with its pursuit of quality of life for all.

Governor Edgar M. Chatto, for his part, said that while victory when shared is sweet; it is made even sweeter knowing that this achievement was due to the unified efforts of leaders and the active involvement of the community.

Chatto also acknowledged the contribution of previous leaders to the governance of the province.

Lucino attended the Sumad festivities in Balilihan which also highlighted the blessing of the waterworks reservoirs in the barangays of Cabad and Hagilanan Grande.

Both water projects were funded from the P1 million the town received from the DILG as the Performance Challenge Fund, an incentive to LGUs in the form of counterpart funding for projects in their Annual Investment Program.

Balilihan was one of 15 local government units awarded the Good Housekeeping Seal in 2010. The annual incentive is given to LGUs that have excelled in the areas of planning, budgeting, revenue mobilization, financial management and budget execution, procurement, and resource mobilization.

This year, Balilihan is still among the recipients of the Seal of Good Housekeeping, along with the towns of Maribojoc, Clarin, Dauis, Loboc, Panglao, Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, San Miguel, Jagna, and Ubay. (Leah/EDCom)
