by Bohol StandardFor Board Member Abeleon Damalerio, it is accurate to say that it is a great challenge for parents to be able to sleep at night and to not worry about the health condition of their family members.
Equally daunting is that task of the father and mother of the province, Gov. Edgar M. Chatto and Vice Gov. Concepcion O. Lim to sustain the well-being of the Boholano population. Admirable then are the efforts of the Provincial Government in prioritizing health in its agenda.
True to their commitment to provide access to quality health care, the Philhealth Team of the Provincial Government began distributing Membership Data Record (MDR) forms of those covered by the Special Universal Coverage Program.
Recognizing the crucial role that the implementation of the National Health Insurance Program plays in the attainment of universal health care, Bohol Province was the first in Central Visayas to lock in to another 2 years of health insurance service under the sponsored program of Philhealth.
Bohol was also one of the first few provinces in the country, and the first province in the Visayas to implement the National Health Insurance Program in 1999.
Republic Act No. 7875, otherwise known as the National Health Insurance Act of 1995 mandates the provision of health insurance coverage and making certain affordable, acceptable, available and accessible health care services for all citizens of the Philippines.
In Talibon, for instance, where the first distribution took place, some 1,193 members were assembled at the town gym to enlist and be profiled by the medical personnel. According to Philhealth in charge, this process assures availment of primary care benefit package in addition to Philhealth benefits.
About a million Boholanos or 74.94% of the population in the province is currently covered by health insurance under Philhealth.
This week, MDR distributions were also held in the towns of Pilar, Albur, and Calape. In addition, Chatto along with Lim and members of the Provincial Board handed Botika sa Barangay kits, a health aid to outpatients program.
The Special Universal Coverage Program is a collaboration of the Office of the Governor, with the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development, and Philhealth.
In a separate meeting with the Carmen Inter Local Health District, Chatto whose administration has put premium on health also discussed plans to bring to municipal level the national performance indices for health.
