By Rey Anthony ChiuNews from the Philippine Information AgencyBohol Vice Governor Julius Caesar Herrera vowed to prioritize the Provincial Anti rabies Ordinance to get the provincial program going and for Bohol to have a strengthened rabies prevention and eradication program.
The SP has honed an ordinance to stop the alarming rise of human rabies cases in the Visayas, a fact attributed to the common penchant for petting dogs but with still a long way to go for responsible ownership.
“The ordinance is promoting responsible pet ownership at the household levels,†Herrera said during his inaugural speech last week. He also said the ordinance seeks to control dog population and maintain zero incidence of stray dogs in the province.
The proposed ordinance was set for third and final reading, a condition that is technically a “go†for implementation after the mandatory publication provision.
SP information officer Ric Obedencio however believed the ordinance would be signed by the governor as easily, knowing that towns have also been asking for it to start their revenue generation. If passed, the Provincial Anti Rabies Prevention and Control Council would start and a simultaneous registration and vaccination of dogs where dog population control within the month.
Dr. Stella Marie Lapiz said “the program took on delays in its provincial implementation since some municipal anti-rabies councils need to be fully organized, a thing that was not done in time for the targeted June grand launching.
