Australian Died on Maribojoc Bohol Cave Adventure
« on: February 09, 2010, 10:56:20 PM »
An Australian died in a freak accident during an adventure trip in Maribojoc town last Jan. 31.

The fatality was identified as Scott Thomas Graham, 30, single and temporarily residing in Barangay Bolod, Pangalo. He died due to severe injuries and broken bones in different parts of his body.

His companion identified as Way Lemon Duncan, 34, married and an American national presently based in J. A. Clarin street , Tagbilaran City also suffered injuries in different parts of his body and was brought to a private hospital in the city.

Two other members of the group identified as Toni Redflinger, 23, single, an American residing at the Bohol Deaf Academy in Torralba street, Tagbilaran City and an eight year old son of Duncan were unhurt.

Initial investigation conducted by the Maribojoc police station and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) of the Bohol provincial PNP showed that Graham and Duncan had been friends for two years.

They went to Maribojoc to try to climb the mountain and enter the cave in Sitio Padhan, Barangay Bood together with their two companions.

The group went to the site about 10 am Sunday morning without a local guide and without coordinating with the local officials of the town and the barangay.

When they got to the cave about 12 noon, Graham let down a piece of rope and tried to work his way down.

Along the way, however, the victim had difficulty going deeper and tried to hoist himself up.

Graham called for help prompting Duncan to try to save him.

The latter, however, failed to contain the victim who plunged to depth of about 200 feet.

Duncan tried to descend himself to help Graham but slipped and fell himself.

Redflinger called for help through her cellular phone

The SWAT team led by Chief Insp. Nicomedes Olaivar rescued Duncan and the two other survivors and retrieved the body of Graham.

Maribojoc Mayor Leoncio Evasco Jr. immediately informed both the Australian and US embassies of the incident. - Sunday Post

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

i have gone to this particular cave in padhan twice. the first visit was quite accidental in that me and my friends were just taking a hike from maribojoc town and we were hoping to cross the hills over to loon. however, someone in the area told us while we were resting, of a cave which had a corn field nearby that was the object of regular raids conducted by wild monkeys, so we decided to take a detour. we didn't see any moneys in the corn field but we found the cave whose entrance was then hidden from view by heavy vegetation. since we did not have any caving equipment, we only tried to go in as far as the natural light would allow... i'm wondering if those people had proper caving equipment and the necessary skills to use them.

The town of Maribojoc should put a warning sign to those who might get the idea of doing the same adventurous deed. Hopefully this would be a lesson to others, to be very safety-conscious.

The one who died from this accidental death is from the country known as "Down Under" yes he died down under as well. So many foreigners have lost lives here in Bohol in the past couple of years.

May he Rest In Peace!

The one who ended his life is from the country known as "Down Under" yes he died down under as well. So many foreigners have lost lives here in Bohol in the past couple of years. I can understand acidental death but when a Boholano kills a foreigner that is a whole other diferent story.

JB,  did you say the Australian guy "ended his life" meaning suicide?  I thought it was an accident!
