Former Panglao Mayor Doloreich Dumaluan has confirmed he is now more convinced that last Tuesday’s attempt on his life was a premeditated murder, adding his assailant could not have acted it without a mastermind.
Dumaluan, surviving what he called an “assassination attempt,†said Teodulo Macalandag, an ex-convict and who is now facing charges of attempted and frustrated murder before the court, had confided with Dumaluan’s wife that someone had ordered him to shoot the former mayor, owner of the Dumaluan Beach Resort in Panglao Island.
Macalandag, however, has not executed an affidavit so he could name names and be more elaborative with his disclosure.
The primary murder suspect made the revelation while he was lying in bed alongside with Dumaluan for treatment of gunshot wound at the Governo Celestino Memorial Hospital last Tuesday.
In an exclusive interview at a Cebu hospital where Dumaluan was treated for a gunshot wound on his left front shoulder, the ex-mayor said he could not think of other reason for Macalandag to shoot him but that the suspect must have been following an order. Based on police records, Macalandag has been convicted of homicide and several cases of robbery.
This statement was further strengthened in Dumaluan’s sworn statement for his complaints of attempted and frustrated murder against Macalandag, Frank Toston, Larry Opada, couple Satish and Jacinta Nair (owner of Grand Luis Lodge in Dauis town), and two John Does.
“Frank Toston, Teodulo Macalandag, Larry Opada, and the two men are all hired and working for Mr. and Mrs. Satash Nair,†said Dumaluan in his affidavit prepared by his counsel, Atty. Aleck Francis “Koykoy†Lim, “noting that they were all armed and strategically stationed and who took action all together on cue from Frank Toston when my back was already turned, are clear indications that they actually planned, conspired, and cooperated to kill me knowing that I would object to what Mr. Nair wanted them to do.â€
Last Tuesday’s shooting incident that left Dumaluan wounded and Macalandag too was an offshoot to a confrontation over the suspects’ attempt to erect electrical post in front of the Dumaluan Beach Resort. But according to the former mayor, Macalandag was in no way part of the group of men who were confronted for “pretending to be men from Boheco.â€
“Without being provokedâ€, Dumaluan recalled, “Macalandag shot me as I was about to leave the scene.†Two security guards of Dumaluan’s resort returned fire after Macalandag and Toston continued firing at Dumaluan and his men after the first almost fatal shot.
“While I was already on the ground,†said Dumaluan in his affidavit, “I saw that Mr. Macalandag and Mr. Toston were still firing several shots at my direction and also at Yoyong Dejan and my companions.â€
In the same interview, Dumaluan said he is not harboring ill feelings toward his assailant though he said he wanted them to come out in the open and testify against those who planned for his death.
Meanwhile, the mayor had secured a certification from the Bohol Electric Cooperative I (Boheco I) stating that the suspects were not dispatched by Boheco, as alleged by the latter, to erect electrical posts in front of his resort.
The couple Nair had denied involvement in the murder attempt. They are currently on travel abroad but they are expected to appear in court during the preliminary hearing after their names have been implicated in the murder charge. Linkback: https://tubagbohol.mikeligalig.com/index.php?topic=22283.0
